SCORE--Counselors to America ’ s Small Business-is a resource partner of the SBA dedicated to entrepreneur education and the formation, growth and success of small businesses nationwide. There are more than 10,500 SCORE volunteers in 389 chapter locations who assist small businesses with business counseling and training. SCORE also operates an active online counseling initiative. Small Business Development Centers (SBDCs) This training resource is a cooperative effort of the private sector, the educational community and federal, state and local governments. It is SBA's largest resource partner and an initiative that enhances economic development by providing small businesses with management and technical assistance. There are more than 1,100 SBDC lead and service centers located around the country. Women ’ s Business Centers (WBC) Women's Business Centers represent a national network of more than 80 educational centers designed to assist women start and grow small businesses. WBCs operate with the mission to level the playing field for women entrepreneurs, who still face unique obstacles in the world of business. SBA District Offices In addition to its resource partners, the SBA operates full service district offices in every state of the country.
Women business owners are critically important to the American economy. America's 9.1 million women-owned businesses employ 27.5 million people and contribute $3.6 trillion to the economy. However, women continue to face unique obstacles in the world of business. The SBA is a very strong advocate for women entrepreneurs and offers many programs and services to help them succeed. Veterans: To ensure that veterans, service-disabled veterans and Reserve and National Guard member entrepreneurs receive special consideration in all of its entrepreneurial programs and resources, the SBA has established a fully staffed Office of Veterans Business Development. The Veterans Business Outreach Program provides entrepreneurial development services such as business training, counseling and mentoring to eligible veterans. The SBA offers special low-interest-rate financing to small businesses with essential employees called to active duty. Native Americans: To ensure that American Indians, Native Alaskans and Native Hawaiians seeking to create, develop and expand small businesses have full access to the necessary business development and expansion tools available through the Agency ’ s entrepreneurial development, lending and procurement programs. Young entrepreneurs: The future of American enterprise is being shaped by young people of today who are filled with dreams, have a passion for change, hope for the future and a desire to succeed. Pursuing business knowledge at an early age is an important ingredient for future success.
Young Entrepreneur Link: SBA is laying the foundation for the next generation of entrepreneurs — teens. The SBA Teen Business Link provides teens the tools they need to begin thinking about an entrepreneurial career or to grow an existing business. Mindyourownbiz.org: Created by SBA and Junior Achievement, this Web site was launched Sept. 13, 2005 provides teens information to plan, start, and run a business.
While poor management is cited as the reason businesses fail, inadequate or ill-timed financing is a close second. Whether you are starting a business or expanding one, sufficient capital is essential. But it is not enough to simply have sufficient financing; knowledge and planning are required to manage it well.

SBDC: Certifies small disadvantaged businesses eligible for specific federal contracts. Mentor: One successful small business guides a new small business along the road to success.
The SBA ’ s Disaster Assistance Program is the only federal program providing disaster loan assistance to homeowners, renters and businesses following disasters. The program provides eligible applicants with certain financial assistance only after an affected area is declared a disaster by the President or the Administrator of SBA.
