3. ExFEARiential Advertising
John St
John St, the Toronto advertising agency known for Pink
Ponies and Catvertising, has now launched ExFEARiential
Advertising, a PR campaign spinning off the recent spate
of stressful prank stunts in the advertising business. LG
Pranks, Nivea Stress Test, and Telekinetic Cafe Carrie all
go so far. But John St takes fear seriously. Creative
director Chris Hirsch explains, “Most ads are dramatic.
We want them to be traumatic.” “Give your customers an
experience they’ll never, ever forget. Muggings. Riots.
Babynappings. We’ll do anything to get your brand
noticed.” .
4. Battle of the Consoles
PlayStation and XBox
Sony has fired the starting gun on the European leg of its
Playstation 4 (PS4) advertising campaign just days ahead
of
the
console’s
launch
across
the
region.
Meanwhile, Microsoft is putting the finishing touches to its
own pan-European marketing effort for the Xbox One as
the ongoing marketing battle between the two looks set to
reach new heights.
5. Sony Pictures - Carrie
Sony
For the up coming Sony Pictures release, Carrie, Sony have
a number of initiatives that are really boosting the viral
and experiential strategies. Previously we saw the
destruction of a coffee shop.
In particular this Facebook idea. ASUs are driving traffic to
app that requests you to ring Carrie on your phone.
Give her a call to find out……
7. NBA Stars Play 'Jingle Bells'
NBA
NBA stars are a festive bunch, with great timing to boot.
They need both in the league's holiday campaigns. Last
year, Dwyane Wade, Carmelo Anthony, Dwight Howard,
Russell Westbrook and Joe Johnson impressively
played the popular Christmas song "Carol of the Bells" just
by bouncing basketballs (in a spot that soared to more
than 8 million views). Now, here's the sequel, which
involves more than just bouncing balls this time!
8. The epic split
Volvo Trucks
It seems like every week, Volvo produce another stunt
video for us to enjoy which demonstrate their steering
systems. They are pretty excited about the dynamic
steering system that they have put into their new trucks,
and they got Jean-Claude Van Damme on board to help it
spread the news.
In "The Epic Split," the Belgian martial arts master starts off
standing with each foot on the side view mirror of a Volvo
truck. The trucks — driving in reverse — slowly drift apart,
forcing Van Damme into a full split.
The steering system is designed to improve precision and
stability, using an electronically controlled electric motor.
The calm look on Van Damme's face, combined with Enya's
"Only Time" for a soundtrack, drives home the message
this steering this precise is easy with the new system.
