Vulcan is a city located in central Romania with a population of around 31,000 people. Archaeological findings show the region has been inhabited since ancient times by Dacians and Romans, though the first documentary evidence of the small hamlet dates from 1462 under King Matei Corvin. Vulcan began experiencing rapid urban development in the 1950s after being named a city in 1952, with the expansion of mines and factories in the area. Today Vulcan has modern infrastructure and institutions as a municipality, utilizing its economic, human, and natural resources as well as tourism potential for development.
