Disposal of Appliances/CFC or Freon
All New York City residents are required by law to
arrange for the recovery of CFC/Freon when
         discarding freezers, refrigerators, air
conditioners, water coolers, or dehumidifiers. For
safety reasons, the law requires that doors be
             removed from refrigerators.

           -DSNY Rules and Regulations
Fact About CFC/Freon

• The most common type of Freon is chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs),
which have been shown to deplete the ozone layer that protects us
  from ultraviolet radiation.
• It is the responsibility of the business or property owner to arrange
for recovery of all CFC Freon. Violations are punishable with a fine
  of up to $300.
