Footnote
The lines where a footnote has been added are set further apart from the rest of the lines (line
space). I would suggest trying to reduce the size of the footnote number to avoid this, or to
increase the line spacing for all lines.
Footnote 1 should be inserted after “In a poll conducted last year for Council for Excellence in
Government”, instead of at the end of the paragraph. That is what the note refers to.
Footnote 2 should be inserted after “Predictions” at the start of the sentence.
In the footnotes itself the numbers should be aligned with the text. They are in superscript
now, which should be used only for footnote references in the text.
Footnote 1 text: change “at” to “available at”, to be consistent with footnote 2.
Footnote 2 text: set “E-Government Strategic Planning: A White Paper 5" in italics, to be
consistent with footnote 1. Change (Released Dec. 13, 2000)” to simply “(2000)” to be
consistent with footnote 1. Leave out “(NECCC Confrence paper)”
Title page
I am missing the actual writer, or whoever put the information together – it only lists an editor.
Should there be a publisher and publication date on this page?
There is no ISBN#
Does a title page normally have an image?
Contents page
This may be a deliberate style choice, but it seems slightly odd that the features on the right-
hand side have a small intro text and the articles in the ‘departments’ section do not.
I would put the page number of the features before the title, as in the list of departments. But
again, this could be a design choice.
Departments pages 8, 10 and 11 need to have a writer reference (‘by xxx’)
It seems as if the number ‘2’ is smaller in font size than the rest of the numbers in the page
numbers?
In the Feature titled ‘Big Top Toys’ (pg nr 58) the sentence in the intro text doesn’t seem to
make sense. I don’t have the article to reference, but that is what I would check.
Feature ‘Galaxy of Choices’ (pg nr 67): the first sentence should start with “It’s” instead of “Its”
Feature “Surviving the Big Wars” (pg nr 86): add a ‘-‘ after “pre”.
Appendix
Depending on the way the rest of the book is set, I would put the intro text in regular font and
the quotes in italics.
2. In the intro text, line 10-11, there is a word missing: “....that complement the earlier parts of
this book,...”
In the first quote, I would put the quotation mark before the full stop in the last sentence.
Index
General: I thought this was very confusing. Maybe it is because I don’t know the subject, but there
were a lot of four-word combinations that seemed to come back under the initial letters of two or three
of those words, but not under the fourth one. Too many to mention.
Assembly, Stock – 51-53, but under ‘S’ there is ‘Stock Assembly and Handguard’ – 29-56.
These do not seem to match.
‘Cap Screw, Hexagon Socket Head’ should have a second entry under ‘H’ and/or ‘S’.
Under ‘L’ – if ‘Lower Band Pin’ is also known as ‘Spring Pin’, then there should be a separate
entry under ‘S’ for ‘Spring Pin’.
Following the logic that ‘Butt Plate’ has a separate entry under ‘P’( ‘Plate, Butt’) and ‘Butt Plate
Cap’ has an entry under ‘C’ (‘Cap, Butt Plate’), shouldn’t there also be an entry under ‘P’ for
‘Pin, Clip Latch’?
Under ‘E’, there are three listings of ‘Ejector’, of which the first two have ‘(Cartridge)’ added. Is
there a different type of Ejector or Ejector Spring and if so, shouldn’t the entry for ‘Ejector, Clip’
also have a clarification added between brackets? Also, ‘Cartridge’ doesn’t appear under ‘C’.
Following the same logic as before, there should be an entry for ‘View, Exterior’. And is there
an ‘Interior View’?
There should be an entry for ‘Hand Guard’
There should be an entry for ‘Rear Sight’
There should be an entry for ‘Spring Pin’
There should be an entry for ‘Elevating Pinion, Rear Sight’
Under ‘R’ there is an entry for ‘Rifle U.S. CAL. .30, M1’ Isn’t that what the whole book is
about? Should that be added to the index then?
Under ‘S’: ‘Sectionalized views’ should be set in a bigger font.
This list is not complete, there are so many issues with this index that I would request a meeting with
the client to discuss.
