Final Project
Your final Access Intermediate project will be to modify an existing database. You will
follow the instructions below and submit your database via Blackboard. This
assignment is worth a total of 50 points.
The Database
Griffin and Emma MacElroy own and operate their own agency, GEM Ultimate
Vacations, which specializes in locating and booking luxury rental properties in Europe
and Africa. To track their guests, properties, and reservations, they created the
Vacation database. Griffin and Emma want you to modify their database to make it
more effective.
Download the Vacation database that can be found in Blackboard. Be sure to save the
file in a location where you can locate it later.
Open the Vacation.accdb database. Save the database as GEM Vacation to your USB.
Create Queries – 15 points
1. Modify the first record in the tblGuest table datasheet by changing the Guest First
name and Guest Last Name column values to your first and last names. (1 point)
2. Create a query to find all records in the tblProperty table in which the
PropertyName field value starts with the word Chateau. Display all fields except
the Description field. Save the query as qryChateauProperties. (4 points)
3. Create a parameter query to select the tblProperty table records for a Country
field value that the user specifies. If the user doesn’t enter a Country field value,
select all records from the table. Display all fields from the tblProperty table in
the query recordset, and sort in ascending order by PropertyName. Save the
query as qryCountryParameter. (5 points)

2. Create a Form – 15 points
4. Use the figure below(also available on p. 357 of the textbook) and the following
steps to create a custom form named frmGuestsWithReservations based on the
tblGuest and tblReservation tables.
a. From the tblGuest table add the following fields: GuestID, First, Last, Phone,
Address, City, State, Postal, and Country.
b. Add the title in the Form Header section (1 point)
c. Make sure the form’s Record Source property is set to the tblGuest and then
add a combo box in the Form Header section to find GuestID field values. (1
point)
d. Add a subform based on the tblReservation table, name the
subformfrmGuestsWithReservationsSubform, delete the subform label,
and resize the columns in the subform to their best fit, and then resize and
position the subform. (3 points)
e. Add a calculated control that display the total of the People field displayed in
the subform. Set the calculated control’s Tab Stop property to No, and set
the calculated control’s Border style property to transparent.(3 points)
f. Add a line in the Form Header section, and add a rectangle around the
calculated control and its label, setting the line thickness of both to 3 pt. (2
points)
g. Use black font color for all controls, including the controls in the subform.
h. Use the “Pink, Text 2, Lighter 80%” fill color (row 2, column 4 in the Theme
Colors palette) for the sections and the calculated control. (2 points)
i. Make sure the table order is top-to-bottom and left-to-right for the main form
text boxes. (1 point)

3. Create a Report – 15 points
5. Create a custom report based on the qryPropertyReservations query. The figure
below shows a sample page of the completed report. Refer to the figure as you
create the report. (11 points)
a. Save the report as rptPropertyReservations.
b. Use the PropertyName field as a grouping field
c. Add a line (3pt) above at the top of the Group Header.
d. Add the Country field to the Group Header section.
e. Count the “GuestID” field within the group footer and label it
“Reservations”.

4. 6. Use the following instructions to create mailing labels. (4 points)
a. Use the tblGuest table as the record source for the mailing labels.
b. Use Avery C2163 labels, with the default font, size, weight, and color
settings.
c. For the prototype label, place GuestFirstName, a space, and
GuestLastName on the first line; Address on the second line; City, a
space, StateProv, a space, and Postal Code on the third line; and Coutnry
on the fourth line.
d. Sort by PostalCode, then by GuestLastName, and then enter the report
name rptGuestLabels.
