2. RationaleWhy develop a technology plan? We are in charge of preparing our students for the challenges of the 21st century The increasing use of technology in the workforce creates a need to align technology use with curriculum content enabling students to use technology in a variety of situations.

RationaleTeacher / School Impact Teachers need to have strong technology skills so students can benefit Proper technology use can improve efficiency in communication between school and home Provides framework for growth and development State mandates – many states require that district have a technology plan

5. Technology Plan Process Assess student needs and outcomes Assess current technology use and needs* Hardware Software Internet access Training (Faculty/Staff) *Needs assessment tool is used to gain input from faculty and staff in regards to current technology use.

7. Vision Statement Why have a vision statement? A vision statement takes the values of what the organization is trying to accomplish and uses those values to inspire all involved to work towards their goals.

Sample Technology Vision Statement:Bethel School District Eugene, Oregon “Students in the Bethel School District will use technology in an ethical and appropriate manner within a safe and nurturing educational environment. Students will have appropriate access to technological tools that enable them to investigate, analyze, problem solve, create and then present ideas and information to others. The use of technology will help prepare students for the challenges they will confront as adults in the twenty-first century. Technology Plan Timeline 2-3 Year Cycles 0-6 months - Administer needs assessments 6-9 months - Analyze assessments, begin developing objectives 9 months-1year - review technology budget, 1-2 years - Implement professional development plans, integrate technology with content standards 2-3 years - Re-evaluate plan, budget and progress. Develop new goals/objectives as needed.
