  1. Good Evening L&G. My name is CM. I am a professional inventor and I am here to present Transformer Transporter to you this evening. If you have a question or comment, please jot it down and I will address it after the presentation.
  2. Why do we need TT? Environmental and Economic conditions are forcing us to relook at transport options. We need a solution to deal with problems such as increased fuel costs, traffic congestion and parking. I propose that vehicles like TT could be an option for urban commuting, in the not so distant future.
  3. This is a basic cross section of TT. Please note that some finer details are not included, and some more design work is necessary in this regard. The TT comes in 4 basic sections, namely: Frame, Frontend (Steering), Powertrain and body. The TT is designed in the old fashioned way of a separate frame and body. This is to extended the service life of vehicle, allow for easy assembly from kit form, and easy modification and maintenance. This frame/body strategy is more expensive to manufacture, however the benefits outweigh the expense.
  4. Is parking a pain for you? What if one could transform ones vehicle to take up less parking space? This would be good news for those of us who have limited parking space at home or at work. The TT has three parking configurations to allow the TT to take up less space in the parking lot.
  5. Standard Configuration requires no adjustment. Good for ample parking space and short term parking. This would be the most common configuration when using TT for daily use.
  6. A-Frame Configuration takes up less parking space. Adjustment into the lock position of A-Frame necessary. Good for crowded parking areas or mid term parking. A possible time when you use A-Frame parking would be when you are away on holiday and would like to park your car so that it is taking up as little space as necessary, and need a secure parking solution to prevent thieves from stealing your vehicle. The A-Frame works by: Disconnecting the rear suspension (not shown) and switching the switch for A-Frame mode. Upon locking your vehicle the TT will move into the A-Frame position and lock into place. An optional pad lock can be attached to the rear suspension coupling for better security.
  7. Upright Configuration uses least parking space. Uses the ‘parking ring’ attached to frame to secure a cable the TT and adjust to upright position. Increased Security, good for longer term parking, limited parking space and maintenance. This parking transformation is the most secure, since access is made more difficult for a thief. A steel cable attached to the parking ring is secured to the ground and is difficult to dislodge. To configure TT into upright configuration: One must switch on the configuration and exit and lock the car. Lift up the panel that exposes the parking ring, and attach steel cable. Pull the steel cable and let the rear wheel act as the fulcrum and move TT into the upright configuration.
  8. To provide maximum value for money a TT is designed to be versatile and fulfil different operational functions. Transforms are made possible by the removable plastic body panels and shatter proof glass windows.
  9. Can you imagine cruising for a relaxing Sunday afternoon drive? The convertible transform allows you to enjoy the sunshine and wind. Standard mode protects the passenger from wind and Freeflow mode allows both the driver and passenger to get the wind in their hair. Remove rear seat and you have a bakkie or ute.
  10. The Buggy Transformation is specifically for off road fun, or more serious outdoor work applications. In this picture I show the TT fitted with knobblies (not standard equipment) to help deal with off road conditions. The raised frame of the TT means that it is ideally suited to rough terrain. All panels except the front panel and mudguard panels are removed for buggy mode, but put on the rear passenger panels and the Buggy Transform becomes a mini bakkie or ute.
  11. The shuttle transform is the default configuration. In this transform mode all panels are in place. The shuttle transform can be made into a microvan by removing the rear seat. The front seat and rear seat are designed so that they can be made into a recliner, should a driver need a place to rest in transit, or an emergency resting place in case of excess alcohol consumption. In the default mode, panels are clipped into place and secured from the inside. Waterproof and wind proof rubber foam seals provide sufficient protection from weather. Important note about plastic body panelling : the panels are made from thermo plastic moulded onto a thin gauge steel mesh. This means that the panels cannot easily be cut open with a sharp blade.
  12. Do we have any motorcyclists in the audience? The TT rides similar to a motorcycle, although it is a tricycle. Similar techniques to steering a TT apply, such as counter-steering and correct placement of bodyweight. High speed cornering (140+) is made more safe by an electronic apex calculator which in conjunction with electronic transmission and traction control ensure that the TT is not going too fast for a specific corner. The apex calculator maps the camber and curve of the road visually using a camera, and together with technology similar to accelerometers in smart phones measures angles and relative deceleration, then calculates the best guided path for the pilot of the TT. The result of the apex calculator will be entered into the computer controlled electronic transmission and adjust the speed of the rear wheel accordingly if necessary. This feature can be over ridden manually. Low speed turns (for example in heavy traffic or in a parking lot) is mostly controlled by foot, whereby the pilot can steer the front wheels by pushing the foot rests accordingly.
  13. The swivel frame of the TT is an important aspect of manoeuvring a TT. The swivel frame allows the rear wheel drive and suspension to move independently from the main body frame. The limited scope of this movement allows the rear wheel drive to always have the most contact with the road, providing the best handling characteristics of the TT, when compared with other tricycle designs. One can see in the picture that the frame and the rear wheel suspension is not at the same angle. Similarly the frontend steering is angled. Notice the oar has moved and that the axis is level in this example. The axis has independent vertical movement on each side. In this illustration I have omitted the counter-steering angles, for simplicities sake.
  14. Several design features of the TT make it an attractive vehicle for the consumer market. Specially designed aerodynamic body means reduced drag and better fuel economy at high speeds. Collapsible roll cage absorbs impact and protects the occupants in a collision. Built in ‘Cool-A-Car’ technology keeps car cool in hot weather. Low maintenance and running costs mean even better value for the consumer.
  15. The TT frame is made in part from moly-steel, which provides a strong and rigid frame that acts a roll cage in the event of an accident. Strategic placement of ‘No Weld’ joins allows collapsible sections of the frame to absorb some impact force of a collision, yet provide sufficient strength and rigidity under normal operation. Swivel Joint and Ball in Socket Joint allow for steering and drive to maintain excellent handling properties at low speeds and high speeds.
  16. Natural fibres such as flax, sisal, hemp, cotton and wool make up the majority of the internal linings and upholstery. Leather upholstery will be available as an optional extra. Treatments of linings with naturally sourced waxes and oils provide necessary water resistance and durability. All linings and upholstery can be removed and washed with normal detergents, then retreated with aerosol wax and oil treatments. Synthetic materials are used sparingly. Front step has a metal grid, to wipe off any mud or dirt from shoes to prevent interior from being dirtied.
  17. Gull wing front door provides access to pilot cabin. Gull wing side doors provide access to passenger cabin. Durable hinges for doors and windows. Windows do not slide like in a conventional car. Windows open by means of pushing a lever to move and lock a window into the open position. Retracted steering control allows easy access for pilot into cabin.
  18. The TT steering mechanism extends the movements of the pilot. Both the legs and arms of the pilot are used to control the steering. The telescopic and removable steering column allows for best adjustment to the pilots body, and additional security if needed. The ball in socket joint and the oar work together to translate the pilots movements into the steering requirements of the TT. The alloy wheels are kitted with special a Piezoelectric Brake Position Assembly disk brakes which can recover some of the energy used in slowing down to electrical current, to be stored in fuel cell like ‘hydrogen capacitors’. The regenerative braking system means that the energy can be reused in the drive system. Universal joints attached to struts allow full movement of wheels according to the camber and steering requirements of the road.   19. The integrated Rear Wheel Electric Motor, or Electropulse Motor, causes the rotational force necessary to drive the TT. The Electropulse motor uses computer controlled electric relays to control an array of powerful electromagnets. The order in which these electromagnetic drivers are magnetised can be changed to provide suitable power/torque outputs, allowing for ‘infinitely’ variable transmission. The magnetic fields which these electromagnetic drivers produce work against opposing magnetic fields in the PermaMag Wheel hub, causing rotational movement. The PermaMag wheel hub consists of both neodymium permanent magnets and electromagnets. The PermaMag wheel hub rotates around the stationary axis of the rear wheel on strong bearings. The bearings are liable to wear and tear, and will be ideally replaced when the rear tyre is replaced. A protective hub fits around the wheel hub, and protects against road debris entering the drive mechanism. The drive mechanism is air cooled, and a constant stream of cool air is sucked into the drive chamber by means of integrated fans. High voltage current is carried into the Electropulse motor in cables housed in the swing arm.
  20. The TT uses unique electric hybrid technology. The TT does not have any heavy storage batteries to store electricity. Instead the TT burns fuel which powers an electrical generator. The electricity is conducted into the integrated rear wheel motor (Electropulse motor) where it causes an electromagnet to cause rotational movement of the wheel hub. The reasons why this is more efficient are mainly because there is little mechanical loss of energy due to friction, when compared with mechanical transmission systems like gear boxes. High voltage current will have losses associated from heat, however the value in joules of energy lost is much less that a mechanical transmission alternative. To provide enough energy for the TT to go, fuel is stored in a fuel tank.
  21. With the proposed HTE motor, this fuel can be any of the following: Diesel blend, Bio-diesel blend, petrol, ethanol blend, pure ethanol, natural gas or bio-gas. Since the fuels have different calorific values, working out litres per kilometre is not a good way to determine fuel efficiency. The HTE motor will burn all fuel completely with no need for a catalytic converter to emit clean emissions. To regulate power output, it is simply a matter of burning more or less fuel to achieve the needed power output. Unlike other internal combustion motors, the HTE does not have a great variation of efficiency according to the power output obtained.
  22. By allowing customers to assemble their own TT’s certain manufacturing costs might be reduced. More attention can be given to stringent quality controls to manufacture consistent high quality components without the additional burden of assembly on the manufacturing production line. Cost to the consumer can be realised by using distributing TT’s on trucks and railway. More units per truck load can be delivered to the distribution depots than can be realised with fully assembled cars of a similar price range, realising a greater economy of scale and therefore reducing cost to consumer. Consumer or dealer can assemble units using standard mechanics tools. Parts such as brake pads and airbags can be self serviced. Non self-serviceable parts may include: Rear Wheel and Electropulse motor system, HTE, Electronic Components and frontend Shock and Suspension systems.

  24. Generic grey, thermoplastic/steel mesh panels can be painted and decorated in any colour. Paint formulated to suit the chemical properties of the plastic components should be used. Care must be taken to use only compatible paints that will not dissolve the thermo plastic panels. Consumers can mix and match panels to achieve personalised multi coloured vehicles, that make a unique fashion statement for the owner. Pre-painted panels will also be available to consumers who do not wish to undertake their own custom colour schemes.
  25. From the outset, the design of the TT has been about keeping the vehicle as eco-friendly as possible. The TT has been designed with low maintenance costs in mind, making this vehicle more consumer friendly in terms of services. Therefore the TT is made from recycled plastics where possible. The panels of the TT are made from thermoplastics moulded onto a steel mesh fabric. If the panels are damaged, they can be easily remoulded and refitted. The inner cabin liner is made from 100% recycled thermoplastic, similar to that of plastic waste bins. Bio degradable materials are used for the interior linings and seats. The linings would be made from such materials as: flax, sisal, hemp, cotton and wool. Since the TT can burn a different range of fuels, the un-availability of certain fuel stocks does not mean a TT is garage bound. The TT can burn bio-fuels, which means that the carbon footprint of TT commuting is reduced. The alloy frame is corrosion resistant, and therefore does not require and non corrosive treatments or rust repair damage. The modular frame means that if a new piece is needed it can easily be sourced from a dealer, and installed by the owner if necessary. The old style construction of a separate body and frame means that the service life of the vehicle is extended, which means that a TT can serve a useful road going life of many years; even if the vehicle has been abused or subject to accidental damage.
  26. The target market for TT’s is very broad, since the TT has many tangible benefits to a large percentage of typical road users. If mass production of TT’s can be delivered at a retail price of under R200 000, this represents over 60% of new car sales in South Africa. This under R200 000 market sector is extremely competitive, however I believe that the TT has what it takes to take a respectable market share of the urban commuter market. The goal of a production of TT’s would be to gain 30% of total new car sales market share within 5 years of commencing production. Since TT’s are versatile and have potential to have a long service life, it is possible that the TT’s will hold a reasonable resale value. By achieving an easy to control vehicle that can be piloted with minimal skill, TT’s hope to gain the market of inexperienced drivers and less skilled drivers. TT’s will appeal to motorcyclists looking for a safer alternative to motorcycling.
  27. We need new technology to deal with changing conditions of fuel price increases, environmental conditions and changing work places (more people work at home these days). Inspiration from retro-common sense engineering, where manufacturing costs were not skimped on. Previous jobs as a delivery rider, in the Pizza business and in the Messenger Business. Have belonged to motorcycle clubs before, and have seen the consequences of serious accidents. Have lost friends due to high speed motorcycle accidents. I have had accidents before, and I have been very lucky not to be injured.
