2. Why I Chose My Topic
I chose my topic for a couple reasons. One being
that I think airplanes are really cool and I've
always been fascinated by how they work. Second
I plan to make my career by working on and
repairing airplanes in one of the branches of the
military.
3. Background Information
Since it was
invented, the
airplane has
completely
changed the
world as we
know it.
4. Thesis
Even though there are other forms of
transportation, airplanes have had a huge impact
on our daily lives because airplanes have
changed the outcomes of both world wars and
airplanes allow us to travel across the world
faster than any other means of travel.
5. Flight
Throughout history,
man has always been
fascinated by birds and
have wished to be able
to fly like them.
6. Flight
Flight was never actually
achieved until Wilbur and
Orville Wright flew the
Wright Flyer on December
17, 1903. Their first flight
took place in the fields of a
small North Carolina town
called Kitty Hawk.
7. Flight
The first airplane was
very different from
aircraft of today. For one,
it was made of wood and
canvas instead of metal.
It was also very small and
built to carry one person.
8. Airplanes Today
Now, airplanes are a major part of
business and allow us to travel
around the globe faster than any
other form of transportation. I took
a flight from Washington DC to
LA once and the flight took about
6 hours. If airplanes didn’t exist
and I had to drive from one coast
to the other, it would take over a
week and it wouldn’t exactly be
the most fun ever.
9. Airplanes Today
Now, with the help of the
airplane, anyone can order
something from a business
across the world and have it
delivered to them in about
one week.
10. Graph
This graph shows that me Would you rather travel
across state by
as well as other people car, train, or plane?
think travel is so much 14
easier because of the 14

airplane.

12. Did You Know
During WW1 they were used mainly for recon. Large cameras
were attached to the bottom of the airplane. Then the plane
would fly over the battlefield and take pictures that covered
large areas of land. Using these pictures soldiers were able to
find trench lines and locate the enemy’s position. This was
especially useful when using artillery because; the enemy
could be weakened by artillery before sending ground units. In
WW2 airplanes had all the same uses but were also used as
bombers and fighters. Bombers would fly over an area
important to the enemy and drop a payload of bombs to
destroy it. Fighters were made to take down bombers before
they reached their drop zone.
13. What I Think
As a whole I think the airplane was the
greatest invention of all time. Ever
since they were invented airplanes
have completely changed the world as
we know it. Despite the fact that there
are other forms of
transportation, airplanes have had a
huge impact on our lives.
