Things To Do In Lisbon Portugal In July
Although Lisbon is ideal for a weekend break using a plethora of wonderful dining places,
pubs and night life to select from, the absolute number What things to do in Lisbon of
extracurricular pursuits here causes it to be worthy of a longer stay.
For all those traveling from the United Kingdom, low priced flights to Lisbon Portela Airport
are available through easyJet, bmi baby, TAP and British Airways. Prepare a Lisbon Airport
car hire too and you will actually encounter everything this brilliant city has to offer.
From the classic to the modern, Lisbon is stacked full museums, the most famous of which is
the Museo Calouste Glubenkian. This enormous complex not only boasts collections of Iznik,
Egyptian and Renaissance artifacts and paintings from the old masters, but two concert halls
for ballet and music performances. Other museums give you a flavour of Portugal's rich
previous. Investigate its naval history by means of its many folklore, the Museo da Marinha
and customs via the Museu de Arte Popular and receive a look at how Portugese folks once
resided at the Museu de Artes Decorativas.
One of the most famous sights is, bizarrely, the Museu Nacional dos Coches and features
among the whole world's most remarkable collections of 17th to 19th century carriages. More
modern fare is available in the Centro de Art Moderna and the Berardo Museum of Modern
and Contemporary Art, that was opened in 2007 in features art work and the Belem district
from Warhol, Magritte, Bacon, Jackson Pollack and Picasso.
When you are in possession of a special interest within the architecture of distinct cultures
then Lisbon is practically bursting at the seams with wonderous buildings and Renaissance
palaces. The Monastery of Jeronimos, which was made an UNESCO World Heritage Site in
1984, was set up in the 1500s and has been the royal burial ground for more than four
generations. A less-taxing approach to take within the city is the Elevador de Santa Justa,
that's a Forty-five metre tall, iron lift built-in 1902 and located within the heart.
For all those with children or for those young at-heart, the Oceanario is an absolute must.
Compared to United Kingdom attractions the tickets are really fair, under 5 euros for kids and
9 euros for grownups, and as the biggest aquarium in Europe it's certainly really worth the
entry price. There are over 450 different species of animals found here included shark, tuna
fish, sea otters and penguins and Sintra tours guided organized excursions are provided.
At night, there's night life in abundance to keep you amused and well nourished, but should
you really want to experience a small cut of Portugese paradise then take a trip to the Solar
do Vinho do Porto....that's Port Wine House to you as well as me. Decadently found in an
18th century palace, you may experience this fortified wine not just in its nation of origin but
in a really appropriate setting, enclosed by hundreds of different sorts of the warm, abundant
nectar. No visit to Lisbon would be finished however without hearing a performance of the
soul rendering Fado music that is one of a kind for the region.
