This document summarizes research methods for a project aimed at helping schools feed more kids locally sourced food. The research uses participatory action research and economic analysis. Background research identified key crops grown regionally and opportunities to connect local supply and demand. Research questions focus on current school food practices, alternative options, tradeoffs, and changes needed. Activities include interviews with suppliers, commodity groups, and school data analysis. Lessons indicate building relationships along the supply chain may increase value for schools, and the project will explore how to foster closer relationships within time and budget constraints.
