1. Q1: In what way does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of a real media product.
Through researching real media products I found that continuity of a product is relevant throughout a magazine as it shows that
you are developing your magazine too look like an existing one, to make my media product look realistic I had to take conventions
from existing magazines and look at the way they format them and the different ways they do it, continuity is represented
throughout my magazine by posting my title ‘SINNERS’ on there, this shows that I am keeping my product the same throughout.
The colour scheme is kept the same as I have used Red/Black/Blue and Grey, I have used these colours because of the way that
the new era magazines look and how they appeal to the audience, I tried to make sure that the colour scheme is well balanced as I
don’t use one dominant colour throughout there all the same. I made sure that I used the correct conventions and did them to the
best of my ability (presentation wise). I have used focus groups to discuss how I could develop my magazine in the best way I
could.
2. While researching existing media products I made sure that the conventions on my magazine was the same as the ones in todays
society, the colour scheme must be the same throughout as it will not look like a complete magazine if I don’t. I have made sure
everything is in the correct place like a existing music magazine and how they look and take a effect on mine.
This font I used within my music magazine is a house style font as it
looks very cool and stylish compared to a country/rock style magazine.
I chose this colour scheme
because blue connotes peace
and house music is very
chilling. I chose black because
it connotes boldness. I chose
red because it signifies danger
and I'm trying to get across to
the audience that my music
magazine is dangerously good.
The way it challenges our
society products out there is
that some don’t use as many
colours as I have so it doesn't
look as good as it looks bog
standard and boring.
I have used a plug to want my audience to buy my
product as it has something to win and something for
free inside.
I have used a pose shot, I have
used this to relate my magazine to a
actual music magazine as in our
society music magazines you see all
of the models doing a pose shot as
they don’t want to be seen as a
boring idiolect, as you can see also
the colour scheme inside of the
magazine compare to the clothes he
is wearing within this music
magazine.
I have made sure the conventions are correct throughout as I have placed a barcode, date and edition of the magazine as it wouldn’t look
realistic if I didn’t have them onit. I have placed the date on there so the audience know when this magazine was realesed.
I have made sure that I have
included real artists in my
music magazine and made sure
they are the same genre that
my music magazine relates to, I
have included the songs that
they have sung , to educate the
audience in what they sing. I
have colour co-ordinated my
sell lines to match my music
magazine and to make sure
that my magazine shows
consistency throughout.
I have used social media
throughout my magazine
which is continuity for
example here as I've used
an artists twitter username
instead of there real name,
this would challenge a real
music magazine as some of
them don’t use social media
to represent there magazine.
3. Like ‘Q’ music magazine I have used different fonts, from my title to my contents writing I have used this so the audience can see it’s a contents
page as the writing stands out big and bold, the red draws my attention straight away as there isn't many things red on my contents page.
I have mentioned what the
artists name is. Like ‘VIBE’
magazine I have placed a pose
shot in there as it gives affect
on the audience of the
cockiness in the artist, most
magazines do this and I have
done it from my first draft as I
just used a medium close up to
develop the shot I've took now.
I have placed headings, because
like other magazines I have used
sections to divide up my magazine
to tell the audience where things
are and what section there under.
Most music magazines follow this
convention that’s why I did.
I have used the album covers at
the bottom to make sure the
audience recognize what albums
I'm talking about because like
other magazines they tell you
what something is and the
audience wont know who or what
it is, that’s why I've put these on
here because its easier for the
audience to understand.
I have placed writings under all of
the sub headings so the audience
know what I’m talking about in
each section and who's included
within the section as I have
followed on this convention from
existing music magazines. As you
can see as well I have changed the
colour from the headings to the
subheadings so the reader knows
what's what, because some
magazines existing will leave the text
colour the same and the audience
don’t know what they're reading.
I have included social media
throughout my magazine because
I have followed on a convention
on from existing products as they
tend to use social media to get
there magazine out there for more
people to see it, as I would advise
our readers out there to follow us
to find out all the latest news on
my magazine.
Conventionally I have included a
letter from the editor as I have
followed this convention on from
existing music magazines to
create it as best as I could to look
like an existing one, I have made
sure that its boxed up like all the
other magazines for example
‘NME’ use this as it’s a good way
of saying thanks to my audience
who are reading this magazine.
I have made sure that the audience can see my
page numbers as it would be a little odd if i used the
same colour as I have within the heading and sub
heading, I have linked the main page numbers back
to the artists as the audience wants to know what's
happening with them.
4. I have used different effects within the artists, I have done this to create an effect on the artists so it makes him look good. I have
also used a pull quote which is used within every article in the music industry, this is to give the audience a insight of what they’re
going to be reading and who its about, I have used large font to make it stand out. As you can see I have used a sub heading within
this article to let the audience know what this article is about, I have changed the colour of the main artist to show who I'm talking
about.
In my article I have used
a drop cap, I have used
this because this I
conventionally used
throughout music
magazines, the reason I
have used this is to show
the audience that I am
starting the article and
where the article starts.
I have used some more
conventional features
because I have used my
logo within the double
page spread now this is
continuity throughout
because I have used my
logo with whatever I have
done. I have put it at the
top of the page because it
stands out within the
double page spread as
when I look at it draws my
attention because its just
at the top.
The grey jumper what my model is wearing grey and my writing is grey so it links to the
headline as they're both grey.
The writing is big and bold so that the audience can see the writing a s with some music
magazines the writing is too little and the audience cannot see it.
The clothing that my artist is
wearing stereotypes the
house music genre, as it
looks cool and looks good.
