Effective schools are now comprised of bricks (the face-to-face classroom) and clicks (the online classroom). How do you blend the two? How do you easily manage teaching, workflow and troubleshooting? How do students and teachers interact? Join leaders in the field to discuss emerging best practices. Presented at ISTE 2016.

1. BL is more effective than online or face-to-face alone (US DEPT ED,2010)
2. BL can optimize personalized learning experiences for students using the best of
face-to-face and online resources but it must be focused on supporting and
alignment to an intentional transformation of the classroom-level instructional
designs. (iNACOL, 2015)
3. BL is effective at differentiating/personalizing;promotes self-directed learning;
teacher and student satisfaction varies with preparation levels.(Dell Foundation,
2014)
4. Research varies, much more needed (NEPC 2014)
5. Small study found that BL significantly improved algebra scores for high school
students, but the effect emerged in the second year of schools' implementation.
(RAND,2013)
6. BL math students showed significantly higher mean mathematics scale scores
compared to those not using BL. (MIND Research Institute,2014)
7. BL improved learning results at six expanded-time,blended learning schools
across the country (National Center onTime and Learning,2013)
67. • In recent studies contrasting blends of
online and face-to-face instruction with
conventional face-to-face classes,
blended instruction has been more
effective. When used by itself, online
learning appears to be as effective as
conventional classroom instruction, but
not more so.

that fosters interactive learning and
builds a comprehensive online
academic community.

69. College Preparatory
• 93% of Higher Ed instructors and
admin say they are using blended
learning strategies somewhere in
their institution.
• 7 in 10 expect more than 40% of
their schools courses to be blended

73. Gold-Standard Blended Learning
l Student-Centered
l Students are “doing” online, teachers are facilitating /
coaching
l Students make their own meaning by applying (transferring)
what they learn to "authentic, meaningful, worthwhile
tasks” online, creating content
l Performance Tasks and Assessments are Authentic
i.e. “real-world”
l Communicate and Collaborate
l Manage information
l Think Critically and Problem-solve
l Create own products with Authentic Audiences
