  • 14. Proposal for a School Campus in Albenga, Savona. Italy competition Section of the auditorium and gym construction In the conviction that public architecture has the task of not only trying to meet the functional needs of the community, but also pursuing the redevelop- ment of a site so that it can become a pole of attraction and socialization, the project has aimed to achieve a fragment urban space in which this building represents the emergence of a set of functions linked system of internal trails within the area and at the same time, open to the city. This is treated as a continuous surface in light gradient fills the interior volume of penetrating into the base. One of the elements that most character- ize the composition of the complex is the roof. The residence is organ- ized not only according to cardinal points, but by means of bands that increase or diminiuish in length to devide the program according to its usage. The client requested a design proposal which would satisfy the requirements for the official residence of the Spanish Ambassador’s home and retreat serving both the enterprise and political activity. Flexibilities and opportuni- ties for extension were necessary due to the changing needs of this diplomatic position. Within the building, references to the Spanish Mediterranean architecture are made, through the intersticial spaces, the intermediate spaces between the exterior and the interior, and the addition of the patios, terraces and porches. Empti- ness lies between the traditional city and the great lake. The site of twenty hectares is situated in the South of the Albanian capital. It sits against the lake, which is surrounded by a chain of parks and green spaces. This arrangement provides lucrative oppor- tunities for development and regeneration.
