5. HOW I REPRESENTED AGE AND
GENDER
Front Cover: On the front cover I had the large central image as a young model who represents the
female pop artist with a mid-shot of her to show her fashion sense this appeals to the young age of
the audience due to the fact that the artist is seen as a role model to female teenage readers. I
represented age on the front cover also by having the masthead very fun, bright pink coloured and
emoticons with the hearts within some of the gaps of the letters. I represented that this magazine is
specifically aimed at females from the use of colours like pink, yellow and baby blue, these colours
appeal more towards females and attracts the female audience to be interested within this type of
magazine.
Contents Page: i represented the contents page to an teenage audience from the language i have
used, for instance i have used an informal tone which teenagers would be used to, and they could
relate well to this type of tone. For example i have used words like ‘hot’, ‘fit’ ‘gossip’ ‘jel’ all vocabulary
that that age range would use. My contents page represents females from the use of colours for
instance i have used baby blues, yellows and pinks which attract a female audience i have also used
a serif font for the editor’s letter and the personal handwriting font for the closing of the letter to give it
a personal feel which females would like.
Double Page Spread: I have represented the teenage audience of my double page spread by
making it relate to the younger teenagers with images of stars and making it very attractive with bright
blue and yellow colours, but i have also made the article more relatable to an older teenage audience
with the use of vocabulary in the article itself and also the images are of a teenage male model which
could attract the older teenage audience. I have represented a female audience by having a a male
model artist on the images on the double page spread to attract a female audience .
