Works Cited Bowser, Betty Ann, and Jeremiah Workman, Sgt. Removed from War, the Battle against PTSD Endures. PBS NEWSHOUR, 2009. PBS. Web. 20 Apr. 2010. <http://www.pbs.org/‌newshour/‌bb/‌health/‌july-dec09/‌marine_11-11.html>. This video should me a real life story about a veteran coming home and having to deal with PTSD. I feel like I learned much more since it was someone who was talking about his experience then reading an article written by someone who hasn’t had to live with PTSD. Gajilan, A. Chris. “Iraq Vets and Post-Traumatic Stress: No Easy Answers.” CNN. N.p., 24 Oct. 2008. Web. 19 Apr. 2010. <http://www.cnn.com/‌2008/‌HEALTH/‌conditions/‌10/‌24/‌ptsd.struggle/‌index.html?eref=rss_topstories>. This article gave me real life stories about how Iraq vets are dealing with PTSD. It also helped me see how many vets become diagnosed with PTSD when they come home from war. Granger, Jill Ilene, and Carol A. Turkington. “Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.” Gale Virtual Reference Library. 2nd ed. N.p., 2006. Web. 30 Apr. 2010. <http://go.galegroup.com/‌ps/‌retrieve.do?sgHitCountType=None&sort=RELEVANCE&inPS=true&prodId=GVRL&userGroupName=cant48040&tabID=T003&searchId=R1&resultListType=RESULT_LIST&contentSegment=&searchType=BasicSearchForm&currentPosition=1&contentSet=GALE%7CCX3405>. Not only did this site explain PTSD and its causes, it also gave other forms of treatment that were not mentioned in any other of my articles. “Many Veterans Not Getting Enough Treatment for PTSD.” Science Daily. N.p., 12 Feb. 2010. Web. 19 Apr. 2010. <http://www.sciencedaily.com/‌releases/‌2010/‌02/‌100210110742.htm>. This article informed me that there are groups of veterans who are less likely to receive adequate care than others. I also learned that fewer than thirty percent of the veterans complete the recommended course for treatment in VA.
Works Cited Continued McClam, Erin. “A New Generation of Homeless Veterans Emerges.” Air Force Times. N.p., 21 Jan. 2008. Web. 20 Apr. 2010. <http://www.airforcetimes.com/‌news/‌2008/‌01/‌ap_homelessveterans_080120/>. This article was really interesting to me. It showed me that not only can veterans with PTSD lose their family, they can also lose everything they have, including there house. It made me sad when I read this because I couldn’t imagine coming back from war and just losing everything I had. “Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.” Medline Plus. National Inst. of Mental Health, 12 Apr. 2010. Web. 20 Apr. 2010. <http://www.nlm.nih.gov/‌medlineplus/‌posttraumaticstressdisorder.html>. This web page just gave me an understanding about PTSD. It gave me much information about how it will affect different people at different times. Price, Jennifer L., Ph.D, and Susan P. Stevens, Psy.D. “Partners of Veterans with PTSD: Caregiver Burden and Related Problems.” United States Department of Veterans Affairs. N.p., 22 May 2007. Web. 30 Apr. 2010. <http://ncptsd.va.gov/‌ncmain/‌ncdocs/‌fact_shts/‌fs_partners_veterans.html?opm=1&rr=rr113&srt=d&echorr=true>. This article was really helpful because it focused on how partners of the veterans who suffer from PTSD deal with it. Segal, Robert, Ph.D., Jeanne Segal, Ph.D., and Melinda Smith, M.A. “Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).” Help Guide. N.p., Nov. 2008. Web. 19 Apr. 2010. <http://helpguide.org/‌mental/‌post_traumatic_stress_disorder_symptoms_treatment.htm>. This article gave me the most information. In this, it talked about what PTSD is, symptoms of PTSD, how to getting help, treatments, self-help and support, and how it affects the family and friends. Tull, Matthew, Ph.D. E-mail interview. 24 Apr. 2010. Interviewing Dr. Tull helped me understand what it is like working with veterans who are dealing with PTSD. He also explained what it’s like for family members and friends.
