2. Parental Involvement:
Volunteering Time for the Success of
Students
Parental involvement in the area of
volunteering has not excelled over the
years when it comes to succeeding in
academics in schools.
3. The school does not have parents volunteering
enough of their time to help out in needed
areas such as classroom (academics), field trips,
and school events.
5. *Parents do not feel welcome in their child’s
school.
*Parents do not know how to help out in the
classroom.
*Parents do not want to be a disturbance to the
teacher and students
7. Parental involvement has increased over the years,
there is work that still needs to be done. Parents
volunteering in the schools are still low.
Over the years, the percentage of parents getting
involved is only increasing by 4%.
8. Now What?
Solution
Since parents like to come
to school and classroom
events, find ways to
engage parents by
planning different
activities or events
throughout the school
year.
Recommendations
• Back to school carnival
• Fall Festival
• Halloween Dance/Sock
Hop
• Secret Santa
• Christmas Ball
• Family Book Fair Luau
• Talent Show
• Etc…….
9. Why these suggestions?
Look at the data, parents are not volunteering
often in the schools or classrooms. If we plan
activities for the parents to take part in, maybe
the percentage will be high in years to come. If
we do not have anything for the parents to
partake in, how can we expect them to
volunteer free willingly?
10. What’s the outcome?
Planning a wide variety of school or classroom
activities or events will invite the parents to
participate more and make them feel like they
are welcome.
11. Once we get the parents to feel welcome, doors
are opened to more success. The doors of
students succeeding academically are opened
more because parents want to help in various
ways. There is no longer a barrier between
parent and school, but a bridge, which is a two
way communication.
12. We need our parents and collaboration is the
key.
“Teamwork makes the dream work.”
Our children are our future.
13. Stop and Think!
What are you going to do to ensure that parents
have every opportunity to take part in their
child’s school and education. How will you
create a positive environment for parents?
Are you willing to be a piece of the puzzle in
the success of our students?
