Module Design
Modules (30 credits) are normally studied within semesters with
each taught module normally having a duration of 12
weeks.
Each module is usually sub-divided into 6 learning packages
with a typical duration of 1-2 weeks.
During an activity a student will be encouraged to participate in
the full range of learning opportunities. Formative (informal)
assessment will be provided to the student during each
activity.
The duration of learning activities will usually be 12 weeks,
with 3 further weeks for students to work towards the
summative (formal) assessment.
Portfolio Assessment
• This programme will use a portfolio based assessment strategy.
• The modules have been mapped to knowledge requirements of
the CIC NVQ level 5 in construction management.
– Students who successfully complete the PgDip with the four core
modules will have ‘satisfied the knowledge requirements of the NVQ’
and they may subsequently submit for the assessment of the full NVQ
to an NVQ awarding body.
• The portfolio may contain evidence in a variety of media, but typically
would include the equivalent of 6000 words if undertaken as report-
writing.
• The design of the module specific briefs for each assessment have been
developed by the module leader and verified by the Schools quality
systems and external examiner in accordance with AQA guidelines.

Student Feedback
• “I enrolled on the Postgraduate Diploma in Construction Management via distance
learning through the University of Salford as the course ticked all the boxes for
quality, value & study time. I decided to register for the distance learning route
with optional face to face workshops. For each module – which last approximately
15 weeks – you attend the University for 3 ‘Masterclass’ Workshops. This gives
you a chance to meet the lecturers and discuss your project work and for them to
provide you with some really in-depth tuition.
• ... I have just completed the programme and I can honestly say I have thoroughly
enjoyed it. I have been able to broaden my horizons and gain some valuable
academic practice. There are times when I feel I have been taken out of my
comfort zone with regard to learning, but crucial to this is the support of the
lecturers who really put themselves out to make sure you understand and can
confidently move forward. The online sessions are not as cold as some may think
and enable you to sometimes ask ridiculous questions as no one can see you!”

The duration of learning activities will usually be 12 weeks, with 3 further weeks for students to work towards the summative (formal) assessment.

  • 15. Student Feedback • “I enrolled on the Postgraduate Diploma in Construction Management via distance learning through the University of Salford as the course ticked all the boxes for quality, value & study time. I decided to register for the distance learning route with optional face to face workshops. For each module – which last approximately 15 weeks – you attend the University for 3 ‘Masterclass’ Workshops. This gives you a chance to meet the lecturers and discuss your project work and for them to provide you with some really in-depth tuition. • ... I have just completed the programme and I can honestly say I have thoroughly enjoyed it. I have been able to broaden my horizons and gain some valuable academic practice. There are times when I feel I have been taken out of my comfort zone with regard to learning, but crucial to this is the support of the lecturers who really put themselves out to make sure you understand and can confidently move forward. The online sessions are not as cold as some may think and enable you to sometimes ask ridiculous questions as no one can see you!”
