Improved perception of TL as a proactive leader who can inform and inspire peers. Increased value and utilisation of TL’s areas of expertise, knowledge and skills to enhance ILSC. Greater understanding of the multiplicity of leadership roles a TL plays in contributing to the achievement of the school vision. Increased awareness of the benefits of collaborative/adaptive leadership and the unique role the TL and all staff has to play in developing total quality management in a school. Also on p4 of this doc P’s won’t feel threatened losing power because by empowering other members of staff they are collectively working towards achieving school vision. Sharing the development process of this vision with staff and students increases the passion, ownership and commitment stakeholders will make towards achieving it. Importantto include students in this process as well so they become engaged in learning environment. Key point: Leadership is about learning and solving problems, creating a collective vision together and constructing meaning and knowledge collaboratively. All members of a leadership group need to be actively involved to permit this to occur. This could be 2 separate slides- 1. vision 2. total quality management Perhaps we could include aspects of the Quality Management  (Tribus). The article discusses strategies for developing change through QM. In terms of leadership we could focus on how TLs can be an active part of this process- “response-able”p7 Cheng also talks about total quality management as combination of the 7 models educational management and refers to role of leaders- could relate this to TL roles of goal developer, resource  developer, process engineer, social leader/satisfier etc pp60-64.  Covey-”Everyone in the system is expected, invited and trained to participate in the improvement process.” Proactive leadership but TLs have vital part to play. Donham p297 “Hartzell suggests proactive people look for change opportunities ....” TLs do this all the time. Donham- vision statement for lib p302. Slide could focus on how TL library vision supports school vision. Give specific examples or case studies. Beare outlines some aspects of each but need readings to detail the benefits. Need to go back to 401 readings- lots of good stuff This would probably cover 3 or 4 slides as it is the meat of the article. For principals/ Executive team Providing opportunities for TLs to lead curriculum initiatives fully utilises the broad perspective the TL has of the curriculum and their knowledge and expertise, especially in regard to Information/Visual Literacy For Staff Staff feel empowered when they are involved in decision making process and studies in Total Quality Management prove this over and over again. Saskatchewan education article p4 discusses some benefits last paragraph. When undertaking the process of change TLs can have a leadership role in Action Research to assist implementation of change; evidence –based practise, assessment, evaluation, collaborative reflection etc Saskatchawan Adaptive leadership p 5. Also look at slideshare PP on TLs and leadership. p6 Excellent for benefits on a practical level 4th paragraph, “Current knowledge....”-talks about working closely with peers to observe strategies, share ideas and experiences, practise new skills, solve problems. effective leaders understand constructivist learning “Collaboration increases teacher’s collective sense of responsibility for student achievement and common understandings of collective instruction” Adaptive leadership p7 Distributed leadership supports sustainability and effectiveness of change in an educational environment. –Sustainable Leadership Hargreaves and Fink p696 & 699-700 Lambert reading p5 also discusses concept of distributed leadership but doesn’t call it this. p6-7 outlines 4 steps in the reciprocal learning processes. Focus on how TLs are ideally poised to lead change in 21c learning styles/approaches due to their expertise in technology. TLs are always at the forefront of implementing educational/technological change so are already natural change advocates ready to lead others. ie-TLs can provide leadership in a dynamic educational environment of globalisation and rapid technological change. Also could include TL as leader in wider ILSC- through webpage supporting parents/students at home, Moodle etc ie providing community leadership in a very practical way. Foley and Hay article on this from 401 would be good here- will chase up. Capacity building which is also mention in Adaptive leadership p3 Doug Johnson also wrote a great article on this Library without books, I think-will find 25/07/2010 9 Changing perceptions of TL leadership role in light of 21c learning
We want to take RFF out of library and enable TLs to collaborate with CTs to plan for and develop resource-based learning to improve student outcomes in line with the school vision or goals. Sharing the development process of this vision with staff and students increases the passion, ownership and commitment stakeholders will make towards achieving it. Importantto include students in this process as well so they become engaged in learning environment. The article discusses strategies for developing change through QM. In terms of leadership we could focus on how TLs can be an active part of this process- “response-able”p7 Cheng also talks about total quality management as combination of the 7 models educational management and refers to role of leaders- could relate this to TL roles of goal developer, resource developer, process engineer, social leader/satisfier etc pp60-64. Covey-”Everyone in the system is expected, invited and trained to participate in the improvement process.” Proactive leadership but TLs have vital part to play.   • 9. Focus on how TLs are ideally poised to lead change in 21c learning styles/approaches due to their expertise in technology. TLs are always at the forefront of implementing educational/technological change so are already natural change advocates ready to lead others. ie-TLs can provide leadership in a dynamic educational environment of globalisation and rapid technological change. Also could include TL as leader in wider ILSC- through webpage supporting parents/students at home, Moodle etc ie providing community leadership in a very practical way. Foley and Hay article on this from 401 would be good here- will chase up.
