Processor clock speeds have steadily increased over time from 2MHz in 1974 to 3.2GHz in 2010. To further increase processing power, chip designers have added multiple processors to single chips, with dual core by 2006 and quad core by 2010. Memory capacity has also grown exponentially, doubling every 1.6 years so that by 2010 capacities reached 4096Mb (4Gb). Storage capacities have similarly expanded, from hard disks starting at 5Mb in 1954 to reaching terabytes by 2010, while floppy disks were replaced by USB drives with up to 128Gb capacity.
