The document analyzes and compares 4 photos for use as a cover shot. Photo 1 is a good candidate but has a hand in frame that detracts. Photo 2 is similar but with better lighting and less hand visible. Photo 3 shows diversity but is slightly blurred. Photo 4 is another good midshot but Photo 2 is selected as the best option due to lighting and less obstructing hand.
2. Photo 1
This, in my opinion is a good
photo, as it has good lighting,
shows a student hard at work,
and also has the ‘AS’ logo on
the book. This is a strong
candidate for my cover shot.
The hand on the book, at the
right of the photo takes from
the photo slightly though. It is a
good midshot too, which is
essential.
3. Photo 2
This is another good shot, very similar to
the previous shot, but the lighting is
different, as it is slightly brighter, and
there is a slight shadow behind the
models head. But there is less hand in
shot, which is a good thing.
4. Photo 3
Here is another decent shot, as it
shows a friendly, laid back side of the
6 form. Also shows racial equality
within the school. It is slightly blurred
though, which means I probably
won’t use it.
5. Photo 4
This was my last cover shot, and
I thought it should be in
contention as it is a good
midshot, of a student hard at
work.
6. Conclusion
I decided to use this photo, photo 2,
over photo 1, mainly because of the
hand that was in shot. Overall though, it
conveys the message I want to set of the
school, that it is about hard work. The
light is slightly off, but could be rectified
though.
