ESSAY
(2012
&
THE
DAY
AFTER
TOMORROW)
Movies
in
modern
days
look
more
realistic
than
it
was
in
the
90s.
As
modern
technologies
have
improved,
filmmakers
able
to
make
a
movie
of
their
dreams
become
a
reality.
Causing
directors
to
be
more
competitive
each
year
that
people
would
easily
compare.
As
for
genre
that
I
have
choose,
disaster-‐adventure
film,
they
are
about
new
experiences
and
can
be
similar
with
many
other
genres
according
to
it’s
characteristic;
action,
science
fiction,
disaster
and
even
historical
films.
I’ll
be
discussing
the
differences
between
2012
and
The
Day
After
Tomorrow.
Both
movies
represent
a
story
about
how
people
survived
on
entering
a
new
age
of
the
world.
They
can
be
both
disaster
adventure
firm
or
science
fiction
film.
The
Day
After
Tomorrow
was
released
5
years
before
2012
was
released.
Based
on
worldwide
ratings,
2012
is
more
preferable
to
watch
by
most
viewers.
It
was
the
most
satisfactory
film
of
the
year.
What
makes
2012
gives
a
great
satisfaction?
What
draws
people
to
choose
2012
instead
of
The
Day
After
Tomorrow?
Though
both
are
compelling
in
similar
ways,
they
hold
more
differences
than
you
realize.
Both
movies
are
about
natural
disasters,
but
one
was
more
intense
and
adventurous
than
the
other.
2012,
the
mother
of
all
disaster
movies,
fans
call
it,
unleashes
two
hours
of
movie
events
continuously
bringing
uncontrollable
destruction
to
the
world.
It
delivers
what
it
promises.
The
Day
After
Tomorrow
was
all
about
an
enormous
“superstorm”,
causing
dreadful
natural
disaster
throughout
the
world,
unfortunately
it
is
not
as
scary
as
2012,
the
only
intense
disaster
were
the
cold
temperature,
that
can
freeze
things
and
people
within
seconds
it
was
hit,
other
than
that
there
were
earth
cracks,
tornadoes
and
tsunamis.
Billions
of
people
may
have
died,
but
the
major
characters
have
survived.
Nevertheless,
in
2012
consists
of
thousands
or
even
nearly
a
million
that
have
survived.
Both
movies
start
off
with
a
huge
earth
crack,
however,
2012
shows
an
early
warning
before
disaster
happens.
They
discovered
something
suspicious
on
the
biggest
sun
eruptions
in
human
history
that
caused
a
physical
reaction.
Soon
after
they
discovered
that
the
earth
core
is
heating
up,
they
expected
that
the
earth
will
be
destroyed
on
a
specific
year,
which
is
later
than
2012,
but
unfortunately
it
happens
earlier
than
they
have
expected
that
have
made
them
escaping
the
disaster
in
a
short
period
of
time.
While
The
Day
After
Tomorrow,
one
of
the
main
characters,
who’s
a
Climatologist,
sense
a
huge
climate
shift
that
can
cause
many
natural
disasters
and
after
some
time
form
a
new
ice
age.
Unfortunately,
when
he
tires
to
explain
his
concern
to
United
Nations,
his
voice
wasn’t
heard,
they
thought
that
it
was
only
caused
by
global
warming.
They
have
a
heavy
snow
later
then
causing
hail
to
happen
in
certain
countries.
This
movie
start
off
without
a
preparation
to
survive.
Unlike
in
2012,
they
straight
away
warned
the
president
of
United
States
right
after
they
received
the
information
on
the
year
of
2009.
After
3. world
leaders
have
been
warned,
they
secretly
built
some
preparations
for
survival
for
society.
So
basically,
in
this
movie,
they
have
been
warned
3
years
before
it
happened
while
in
The
Day
After
Tomorrow,
the
leaders
refused
to
believe.
The
quakes
were
just
getting
bigger
and
stronger
by
the
hour
in
2012.
Earth
crust
was
destabilizing
causing
houses,
buildings,
roads
and
bridges
to
collapse
from
region
to
region.
There
were
volcano
eruptions
literally
everywhere.
Almost
all
countries
have
vanished
just
like
that
and
the
entire
states
have
been
swallowed
by
the
sea.
The
tsunami
ends
up
in
China
where
the
last
country
that
stands
and
where
the
ships
have
been
prepared.
Conversely,
in
The
Day
After
Tomorrow,
after
the
quakes
happened,
it
stops
and
humungous
tornado
attacks
certain
countries.
Later
then
tsunami
started
to
happen
that
swipes
the
people
excluding
the
buildings.
As
the
temperature
reaches
to
it’s
lowest
point
people
were
advisable
to
hide
inside
a
building
for
safety.
Regardless,
in
2012’s
disaster
was
extraordinary
and
yet
they
have
prepared
for
the
safety
earlier
while
the
other
movie
have
lack
of
that.
Both
movies
consist
of
more
than
10
casts,
but
2012
have
more
casts
that
paid
an
important
role
than
the
casts
in
The
Day
After
Tomorrow.
Both
movies
involve
the
president
of
United
States
whom
was
also
an
important
role
in
2012.
Jackson
Curtis,
the
main
cast
of
the
movie
in
2012,
right
after
he
realizes
that
the
world
is
about
to
fall
apart,
he
straight
away
struggles
to
keep
his
family
to
safety.
Thanks
to
Charlie,
a
radio
cast
that
he
stumbled
in
Yellowstone,
whom
has
been
tracking
these
events
in
his
daily
life,
knows
everything
about
the
disasters
and
preparations.
Eventually,
Jackson
and
his
family
end
up
in
a
big
plane,
owned
by
his
“boss”
that
he
worked
for,
and
travels
all
the
way
from
United
Stated
to
China
where
the
big
ships
are
located.
While
in
The
Day
After
Tomorrow,
Jack
Hall,
who
discovered
the
“superstorm”,
tries
to
keep
his
son
Sam
Hall,
who
is
trapped
in
New
York,
save
from
the
storm.
While
his
son
is
in
New
York,
he
bravely
dares
himself
to
travel
through
the
journey
across
America
to
reach
Sam
to
make
sure
he
is
save.
All
Jack
has
to
do
now
is
to
keep
other
people
that’s
left
save
to
stay
inside
and
keep
warm,
but
some
refused
to
listen,
instead
they
went
to
find
help
and
end
up
freeze
by
the
whether.
However,
the
main
cast
in
2012
does
more
heroic
role
than
Jack.
To
conclude,
in
2012,
it’s
main
character
have
saved
thousands
of
lives
includes
his
family.
It
was
a
nerve
racking
on
the
scene
in
addition
of
the
clock
ticking
limitedly
that
everyone
was
depending
on
him
in
order
to
save
everyone’s
life.
Jackson
did
more
sacrificing
than
Jack.
All
Jack
had
to
do
was
convince
people
to
be
safe
inside
a
building.
Overall,
2012
was
definitely
the
most
adventurous
disaster
film
in
the
century.
