Angkor Wat is a massive Hindu temple complex in Cambodia that was the capital of the Khmer Empire from the 9th to 15th centuries. It was built in the early 12th century by King Suryavarman II and covers around 500 acres, making it the largest religious monument in the world. It was rediscovered by the French explorer Henri Mouhot in 1861 after being lost to the world for centuries and published his findings, which helped introduce Cambodian architecture and culture to the wider world.
