6. We had a very exciting trip to the Kruger Park with the post
matric ABSA students. We were in the park for two days and one
night and had some really good sightings. We saw four out of the
big five!
It was so wonderful, most students had never been in the Kruger
Park before, they had the time of their lives, as one of the
students wrote on their feedback form “Kruger Park Rocks!”
7. Great news, one of the ABSA students who finished his matric, Kutullo, got a
placement at Khamai Reptile Park. He get trained how to handle all different
types of reptiles, how to find them, pick them up and clean their enclosures.
He is thrilled with his new experiences and hope he might find a job handling
reptiles in the future.
To create extra income for the eco clubs, the children drew all a unique
postcard. These postcards we will sell at Daktari. All the income will go
directly to the eco clubs, so they can decide once a year what they want to
do with the money they raised.
Thank you, Risette de Haas – Outreach Manager Daktari Bush School

17. My fiance, Lew, and I volunteered at Daktari for a week in December 2010
during our trip around the world. We had such a fantastic time at Daktari, with
the animals, the amazing children, and fun staff and fellow volunteers. Now
that we are home and back to work, we really enjoy the updates about Daktari
in the email newsletters and Facebook. We are always so happy to see that
things are going well at Daktari – the organization does so much good!
Our wedding is coming up, and we decided to give a donation to Daktari instead
of traditional favors at the wedding. This is a trend that is getting more and
more popular in the U.S.. Traditionally, couples give small candy or keepsakes at
weddings, but more and more, couples are donating to causes that are
important to them. Well, Daktari is important to us!
We are planning to have a small display about Daktari with some pictures that
we took while volunteering. We are going to have place card holders made out
of small plastic African animals to go with the theme. (They tell the wedding
guests what table to sit at).
We are excited to share Daktari with our wedding guests and show them the
wonderful work they do.
