2. 1830 - 1860 1834 – The “Mill Girls” of Lowell, Massachusetts go on strike to protest wage cuts. 1835 – Philadelphians strike for a hour work day. 1847 - New Hampshire enacts first state 10-hour-day law 1860 – Shoemaker’s strike in New England.
