Webquest: Site evaluation
1.
http://www.chiddingstone.kent.sch.uk/homework/rivers/nile.htm
This site was created for educational purposes (as stated in the copyright footnote). At the
moment of evaluation (August 2011) content seemed up to date. Sources are provided
and the email and website of the author are available for further contact. It is very user-
friendly and it provides a vast collection of images, pictures and maps. It is going to be
part of our webquest as it caters for the students’ needs, it is very easy to navigate and
the information is accurate for our activities.
2.
2. http://hotels.lonelyplanet.com/brazil/florianopolis-r1977290/
This is a very famous site for travelers and since the booking section is for commercial
purposes, it needs to be constantly updated. It is very easy to navigate and, although
there is a disclaimer note about the hotels advertised here, information is accurate as it is
considered to be a reliable site. It is going to be part of our Webquest.
3.
3. http://www.lonelyplanet.com/germany
Lonely Planet offers a wide range of information about each destination and writers can
be contacted as well. It is a very friendly site and there are comments of travelers and
locals that provide an interesting overview of attractions, lodging, customs, cultures, etc.
The text about Germany is from 2010, so it is not updated. Yet, Lonely Planet is a
specialized publication and the content is reliable. It is going to be one of the sites of our
webquest as we believe that learners can browse through this site very comfortably and
find interesting facts and opinions about Berlin and Germany.
4. 4. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japan
Wikipedia is a very popular website and it is generally the first option shown in most
search engines. Most students are used to it and they can easily access Spanish versions of
the articles. Information is usually updated, especially in terms of current events. Yet, it is
very difficult to contact writers, as it is a collaborative project. Sources are not always
provided and information may not be reliable. Although it can give a general overview for
our purposes, we prefer not to foster the use of this site in the pursuit of more reliable
sources of information.
5. 5.
http://www.aboutflorence.com/
This is one of the first sites that appears when searching “Florence”. It is very
comprehensive; it has very vast amount of information available; it seems updated and
authors can be contacted. Yet, so much information can be misleading and the site is not
visually attractive at all. Although the information is good, it can be easily translated into
Spanish and it is not friendly for students. We do not include this site in our Webquest.
6. 6.
http://en.comune.fi.it/
This is the official Florence site. It is updated and it belongs to the Comune di Firenze.
Contact information is available and the site is very comprehensive. Although this page is
not very attractive visually, students can find information very easily and the content is
absolutely reliable. It is included in our Webquest.
7. 7.
http://www.nycgo.com/
This is the official New York City guide, it is updated, visually attractive and contact info is
available. It is easy to navigate, sources are reliable and the information that we want
students to get is very easy to find. This site is included in our Webquest as it fulfills
students’ needs for the lesson.
8. 8.
http://www.joburg.org.za/visitors
This is the official Johannesburg site and it offers reliable and comprehensive information.
It is very easy to navigate, it is updated and the information we want students to get is
very clear and easy to access. Contact info is available. We include this site in our
Webquest.
9. 9.
http://en.parisinfo.com/
The official website of the Convention and Visitors bureau offers updated and reliable
information about Paris. It is very user-friendly and very attractive in visual terms. It offers
a large amount of useful information and students can find the data they need very easily.
It is part of the sites listed in our webquest.
10. 10.
http://www.barilochepatagonia.info/
This site is the official Bariloche site. It is visually attractive and we believe that that the
information is updated. Yet, when we tried to change the language into English, it was not
possible (it did not work). We are not including this site as only the Spanish version is
available.
