Discovering Bali – There’s More To It Than Sun, Sea and Sand
1.
2. Bali has to be the most well known Indonesian Island and
what was once a laid back place where surfers chose to
hang out has transformed itself into a holiday destination
hot spot.
If you’re thinking about getting married in Bali, then it’s
most definitely a romantic island, with pristine sands and
gorgeous weather, but you might be wondering what the
island has to offer as a honeymoon destination too.
3. Fun
Bali is simply awash with plenty of activities and
attractions to ensure you have fun during your stay. If
you’re looking to cool off and have some fun in the
water, then a visit to Waterbom is a must do. This
brilliant water park located in the centre of Kuta boasts
more than 20 first class waterslides and leisure facilities
to suit all ages. Set amongst stunning tropical
gardens, it’s a fabulous place to spend the day.
4. Festivals
The Balinese people devote their lives to an endless
ritual of purifications, dances, processions and religious
offerings and no matter what time of the year you
visit, you’re bound to get caught up in the excitement of
a festival. There’s a myriad of festivals including both
religious and non-religious.
5. Religious festivals can last anywhere from days to
weeks during which time the temples are beautifully
adorned with colourful flowers, palm leaves and flags
and noisy parades take place complete with food
offerings and prayers.
During July to October there’s the Negara Bull races to
enjoy. Makeshift chariots are driven by pampered bulls
who are spruced up with garlands and other
accessories, and steered by jockeys using a
combination of tail twisting and riding skills. It really is a
sight to behold.
6. Food
Eating in Bali is always a pleasure and for many is the
highlight of the day. There’s a plethora of places to eat
from 5 star restaurants to open sided cafés to night
markets. Whatever your budget you’ll find a wide range
of excellent dishes. Adventurous couples may like to try
the delicious array of food served from mobile carts
known as kaki limas pulled by young boys. Stand in the
streets and watch as they go by and stop the one whose
food you like the look of.
7. The night markets come to life at dusk and even if you
can’t pluck up the courage to try the food, you simply
must visit to experience the noise, smells, and sights
which are such an integral part of Bali. Almost all
restaurants will serve nasi goreng and mie goreng and
another great favourite is Satay.
Festival food, however, is much more decorative and
elaborate, and for the people of Bali marks it out as a real
occasion to be savoured. You may only get to eat true
Balinese food by attending festivals or special Bali nights
put on by restaurants where they’ll offer dishes such as
suckling pig.
8. As a honeymoon destination Bali has it all and much
more besides!
