4. What is Texture?

texture - An element of art, texture is the surface quality
or "feel" of an object, its smoothness, roughness,
softness, etc. Textures may be actual or simulated.

Actual textures can be felt with the fingers, while
Simulated/Virtual or Visual textures are suggested by an
artist in the painting of different areas of a picture —
often in representing drapery, metals, rocks, hair, etc.

Words describing textures include: flat, smooth, shiny,
glossy, glittery, velvety, feathery, soft, wet, gooey, furry,
sandy, leathery, crackled, prickly, abrasive, rough, furry,
bumpy, corrugated, puffy , rusty , and slimy.

8. Where can we find Texture?


Texture is all around us, in our living rooms, the carpet
we walk on, on the clothes we wear, texture on tree
trunks, texture is everywhere. Everything you touch has
a texture, it could be the smoothness or roughness of
wood, the roughness of carpet in your living room, or it
could be the smoothness or roughness of the shoes you
wear.

9. •In a picture you can't actually feel texture
because it has only a two dimensional
surface, but you can portray texture through
the way you depict it on the paper or canvas.

10. This kind of texture is called
 Simulated Texture: to assume or have the
appearance or characteristics of
 Virtual Texture: just a picture, not real
 Visual Texture: a picture, painting,
drawing, and or artwork
