Dear Prime Minister,
A great sadness has befallen our entire country today with the announcement of the
passing of one of our true fighters for the working men and women of Canada.
I am sure that you and your colleagues of every political stripe share that sadness along
with us.
Whenever we lose a great leader and a fighter for our country the people from coast to
coast of this great country mourns together, today is no different.
I am writing on behalf of other Canadians and the membership I represent at my Local
Union as well as the Hamilton Steelworkers Area Council and we are asking that proper
recognition be afforded to our dear friend Jack Layton.
We are asking you to provide a state funeral in recognition of Jack’s tireless
representation of the Canadian people. We want to mourn along with the Layton family
2. and pay our deepest respects to our friend. We want to be able to say thank you and
good-bye.
It is my hope that you will recognize the importance of this and do what is correct for not
only Canada but for the many international friends who want to pay homage to Mr.
Layton.
