6. Looking to the future
We are living through some of the biggest
changes the world has ever seen. The digital
revolution is transforming the way we
interact – how we live, work and play. At
the same time, growing awareness of the
sustainability challenges facing businesses
are forcing us to join this revolution or face
being left behind.
Information and communication technology (ICT)
facilitates sustainable development. If we develop
and apply ICT badly, the business will suffer. We
would be unable to provide our current and potential
customers with new and emerging ways of doing
business and fall behind our competitors.
If we apply ICT well, the rewards could be enormous.
Customer awareness of Hughes Insurance and ease of
access to the fruits of our business would increase
exponentially.
The sustainability challenges facing an ICT
Department are complex, just as in other
departments. This should not, however, prevent such
a department from dealing with the issues and so
being key to the business reaping maximum benefit.
Sustainability leadership is necessary if the benefits
are to be real and realised.
