The Asmat are an indigenous hunter-gatherer culture living in West Papua, Indonesia, who are one of the last traditional gatherer cultures in the world; they have traditions such as nose piercing and face/body painting for ceremonies and war, but their culture is deeply affected and threatened by deforestation, colonization, and assimilation as the modern world takes over their lands.
