In this presentation I have compared the major features of each system and discussed some of the pros and cons of it. And I hope this will definitely help you take a more informed decision in choosing the right system for you.
2. Never compare the two..
There is no one word answer for this question: which is
better, a laptop or a desktop? Each one has its own
advantages and disadvantages, and it totally depends on
what your work requirements are.
So you must have a clear picture about your needs and
preferences before you buy a laptop or a desktop.
It is highly recommended to do a thorough market research
on all the models - based on your preferences.
Then it will be pretty easy for you to choose the system that
suits your needs and budget.
3. Let your needs define your system
In this presentation I have compared the major
features of each system and discussed some of the pros
and cons of it.
And I hope this will definitely help you take a more
informed decision in choosing the right system for
you.
First and foremost, you must be crystal clear about the
objective of buying the system, whether you need it for
your personal use or for official purpose.
4. Let your needs define your system
If you want to use it for personal use, that is checking
emails, play some games or chatting, then a basic system
will suffice you, and there is no need to go in for a pricey,
high end one.
But it has been observed that people tend to get more
worried about the price factor of a system rather than
meeting their requirements.
So, if you are one amongst them, you will be happy to know
that the price difference between a laptop and a desktop is
not so vast these days. And it shouldn’t really prevent you
from buying the system of your choice.
5. Benefits of a laptop
If you are a person who needs to travel frequently at work,
and also require working on a computer while on the move,
then obviously, you should have a laptop.
You can also stay well-connected to the internet on the
move, check your emails or do a quick chat with your
friend, due to the wide accessibility of a wireless (wi-fi)
networks these days.
And with a laptop, you can work from a comfortable spot in
your home that you love, if you are telecommuting.
6. Benefits of a laptop
But on the other hand, if you want a system that works
silently without causing any disturbance - in your
room, then you must go for laptops, as their cooling
fans are quite calmer than a desktop system.
Since Laptops come as a single unit, they are clutter –
free with lesser wires, dust and cables, keeping your
table look neat and clean.
This is a great reason to go for a laptop especially if you
want your table to be always free from clutter.
7. Short falls of a laptop
Unlike the desktops, you can only have a 15” or 17”
monitor on a laptop, which is one of the major short
falls of it.
Another disadvantage of a laptop is the absence of an
efficient CPU cooling fan, because of the space
constraint. This can often give rise to overheating
forcing it to shutdown unusually.
You won’t find that problem in desktops as they are
installed with incredibly efficient CPU cooling fans.
8. Benefits of a desktop
On a desktop you can work any duration you want as it
is connected to your home power supply.
But you don’t have that luxury on a laptop as you need
to keep recharging the battery for providing
continuous power supply.
And you must have a live charging point available
when you are on the move or the place where you
choose to work; otherwise having a laptop is useless.
9. Benefits of a desktop
But in case of a desktop you don’t need to worry about
the power supply, unless you have long and
intermittent power outages in your area.
Desktops will serve you much longer than laptops as
they are easily repairable and expandable, which is not
the case with laptops as there is no space for adding
new hardware.
10. They are built differently..
Laptops and desktops are entirely different when it comes
to their hardware designs.
In case of a desktop, the external peripheral devices like
keyboard, mouse, speaker, monitor etc. must be connected
separately to the CPU to make it function as a desktop.
But in case of a laptop all of these components are
combined as single unit which makes it portable and
mobile.
And you also have the facility to connect all of them
separately on a laptop - if you want it that way.
11. Conclusion
Now it is time for you to take the call.
If you have prepared a list of your requirements as - mentioned
in the beginning of this presentation – going through this
presentation will definitely help you make the right choice
without any problem.
