Project for World History Class in 2008. We had to plan a 2 week trip to Europe with a budget. Each person in the group had $6000 to spend. We had so much money left over that we could have stayed a few more weeks to visit other parts of Europe.

- The currency in the places we will be going to is Euros. 1 Euro= $1.47
- We will be departing from LAX on the Friday the 25 th and arriving in Rome on Saturday the 26 th @ 7:25am. Once there we’ll follow the signs to Stazione Trenitalia/Railway Station. We will then purchase tickets from the tabaccheria for 11 euros each. Before boarding we’lll validate our tickets using one of the yellow machines. Then it should take about 30 minutes to get to Rome’s main train station (Termini)
- We’ll be arriving at the Stazione Termini. Since the hotel is about a 10 minute walk from the station, we’re going to walk to the hotel. We’ll be using the metro to get around the city for everything else because traffic in Rome is really bad. There are 2 metro lines. Line A in red; and line B in blue. The cost is 1 euro per trip.
- This is the hotel we’re going to be staying at – Welcome Home Residences. We’re going to stay there our first 2 nights. Since we’re flying back home from Rome, we also booked an additional night for Friday, Feb 1. We got a special rate on the hotel price at Expedia.com a month before.
- After checking in to our hotel, we’re going try to do a tour of the Vatican. We scheduled a walking tour with ‘enjoy room’ which starts at 9:30 am. We’ll take the train to our meeting point at Ottaviano. If for whatever reason we don’t get to our tour on time, we’ll just do the tour ourselves. A strict dress code is enforced at St. Peter's: knees and shoulders must be covered and men must wear pants . No shorts are allowed.
- These are some of the things we’ll see on our tour: (1) La Pieta, which is in St Peter’s Basilica. This is a famous statue by Michelangelo. (2) The inside of the Sistine Chapel which is full of paintings by Michelangelo.
- (3) Vatican City
- On our 2 nd day in Rome we will do a tour of Imperial Rome. We’ll meet at the designated area near the Coliseum to begin our tour.

- The next day, we’ll go to Florence.
- Here are some of the options given for train departures. In Italy there are different kinds of trains. The best one to take is the ES (Eurostar) because it is the nicest and fastest. That’s the one we’re taking. You have the option of buying online ahead of time, but there’s really no reason to do so since we’re not going during high season like the summer. We’ll buy 2 nd class tickets for the train leaving at 8:50 AM.
- We’ll be arriving at the train station Santa Maria Novella at 10:30 AM and will then we’ll walk to hotel which is about 10 minutes away.
- We booked the hotel at orbitz.com. On this day we’re just going to walk around and get to know the city since the museum are closed on Mondays.
- The next day, we scheduled a private tour of Florence.
- We took a taxi from Florence to the airport so we can catch our flight to go to Munich. (Go over infromation on slide)
- When we got to the airport we’ll use the metro system to get to our hotel. In Munich they call it the S Bahn and the U Bahn. The airport connects to central Munich by S-Bahn on S1 or S8 lines. The journey (single) costs €8.80 (or €10.00 for a day pass) and takes about 40 minutes. We’ll get off on the central Station (Hauptbahnhof), and from there we’ll walk to our hotel which is about a 10-minute walk.

- This is the hotel we booked, Hotel Deutsches Theater Downtown. We booked for 2 nights, and the total price was $469.34 for all of us.
- After we check into out hotel, we’ll take the U (subway) to the Mariaplatz (the main Square) to view the Neues Rathaus , which is the town hall. The Neues Rathaus was built in the neo-gothic style from 1867-1910. Here you will also find outdoor cafes and many shops. It’s a good place to grab a bite to eat and buy some souvineers before proceeding to the Frauenkirshe (or Cathedral of our Blessed Lady). The cathedral’s twin onion domes are the symbol of the city.
- From the catherdral we’ll walk to the Residenz which was the former royal residence of the Bavarian Dukes, Electors and Kings . The Residenz is the largest downtown palace in Germany and serves today as one of the finest room decoration museums in Europe.
- On our 2 nd day in Munich we took a tour of 2 castles: 1 st castle: Linderhof
- Castle 2: Neuschwanstein King Ludwig II of Bavaria in general's uniform with the coronation robe 1865.
- The first " Oktoberfest " took place in Munich, on October 12 , 1810 The Oktoberfest is a 16-day festival held each year in Munich , during late September and early October. It is one of the most famous events in the city and the world's largest fair, with some 6 million people attending every year.
- This is one of the places we plan to go eat at during our stay in Munich.
- Since we have to be at airport 2 hours before, will get to train station at 8am to make sure we get to airport on time. Will take 30 minutes to get to airport
