Character 1
Adversity (Jonas)
From The Giver
In The Giver, Jonas adversity was  Jonas Not Knowing About Color
that as receiver he finds out a lot of
different things that are going on
in the community that only him
and the Giver knows. For Example
he finds out about color which was
never told to any other people in
the community. So every thing in
the community was just black and
white. Another thing he finds out
is that when his dad had to release
the kids he had to weigh them and
which ever one was the lightest he
had to kill that baby.
How Character 1
Overcomes
Adversity
Jonas overcomes his adversity by  Jonas And Gabe Riding A Bicycle
running away from the community.
Before running away Jonas receives Out Of The Community.
a lot of information from the Giver
that helped him on his journey
running away from the community.
Jonas also gets his little brother
that he finds out is going to get
released and takes him on the
journey out of the community.
During he uses a lot of what the
giver gave him. For example he
used his gift to keep them warm
and provide them with good
dreams.
Character 2’s
adversity (Adam
Zebrin) from story
Zebra page 184 • Zebra Running
In the story zebra Adam zebrin faced
a huge adversity that changed his
every day life. One day he was
running through the neighborhood
because he loved running for the
sheer joy of it. Then when he got to
the hill on Franklin Avenue he felt his
legs getting lighter and lighter. Then
when he arrived to the hill he started
to descend and start flying like the
bird he had once seen in a movie.
Then a huge rushing shadow
appeared in his line of vision and
crashed into him. After this day he
was never able to run like that again.
Cited on page 186 first paragraph,
and on 2nd paragraph lines 13 through
lines 36.
How character 2
 overcomes
 adversity.
 Adam Zebrin overcomes his
adversity when he meets John Wilson
 Zebra painting in his summer art
one day during recess when he was class with John Wilson
sitting on the gates watching the kids
play. When he met John Wilson his
life slowly started changing as there
friend ship became stronger. Zebras
relationship helps him to get over his
adversity not being able to do the
thing that he loved to do which was
run. Then during the summer John
Wilson has a summer art class and
Zebra signs up and has a great time
during the class. I think John Wilson
doing this really helped Zebra to have
fun and forget about his problems.
Character 3
adversity (Victor
from story Seventh
Grade).
 The adversity Victor faces in
Seventh Grade is that he likes this
                                         Victor Looking At Teresa
girl named Teresa but she doesn’t
even notice him. So at the
beginning of seventh grade he
promises himself that this year
Teresa will be his girl. He takes the
same elective class that she takes
which is French since he already
knows Spanish and English
hoping that he gets her to be his
girl.
How character 3
overcomes
adversity.
 Victor overcomes his adversity by
taking the same elective class that
                                         Victor Talking To Teresa
Teresa does. Another thing he does
is that he tries to get her to notice
him. So when French class came
which was the class they had
together right after lunch he tried
to impress her by raising his hand
when Mr. Bueller asked the class
who knew French. When the
teacher saw his hand up he
beamed and said ‘’ Tres bien.
Parlez- vous francais? ’Out of
nervousness not knowing what he
was saying he mumbled ‘’ La me
vave me con le grandma,’’. Then at
the end of class Teresa came up to
him and said ‘’I didn’t know you
knew French that was good,’’ and
she asked him if he could teach her
sometimes.
REFLECTIONS
If I were Jonas, I would have waited
Jonas overcame his adversity by using for the Giver to give me more powers
the powers the giver gave him to help before leaving. If I were Victor, I
him and his little brother escape from would have become friends with
the community. Victor overcame his Teresa instead of pretending to be
adversity by pretending that he knew someone I'm not. Because of his
French to get Teresa to like him. Zebra lie, Teresa wants him to teach her
overcame his adversity when he found French which will be hard because he
himself a new friend named John doesn’t know French. Finally if I was
Wilson. John Wilson invited Zebra to Zebra I would have probably still did
his art class during the summer which the things that I used to do although he
helped Zebra get over his disability for was handicap I probably still would
a while and just have fun. have played sports like basketball in a
                                           wheel chair.
