Christopher Columbus was born in 1451 in Genoa, Italy. He believed the world was round and proposed sailing west to reach Asia, hoping to find a trade route for spices. In 1492, King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella of Spain funded Columbus' expedition, providing him with three ships: the Nina, Pinta and Santa Maria. On October 12, 1492, Columbus landed in the Bahamas, believing he had reached Asia, but had actually discovered the Americas. Over his four voyages, Columbus explored the Caribbean islands and parts of Central and South America, claiming the lands for Spain. Columbus died in 1506, still believing he had reached Asia.

He asked King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella to rent some crew and three ships and they agreed. The three ships names were Nina, Pinta and Santa Maria. Columbus set sail from Palos, Spain, in 1492. During this expedition he went to the Caribbean islands, San Salvador (which he named), Cuba and many other islands.

6. On the third expedition he set sail in 1498, and while three of his ships went to Hispaniola . Columbus sailed down a southern route and discovered the islands of Trinidad, Tobago, Grenada and Margarita. He thought he saw a more southern island but it was actually the mainland of South America. Columbus was the first European since the Vikings to set foot on mainland America.
7. Upon returning to Hispaniola, Columbus found the colonists short of food and not happy. The king sent a representative to check on things and Columbus was arrested and put in chains. He was shipped back to Spain but once again the king and queen forgave him.
8. On his fourth and final expedition, Columbus sailed to Mexico, Honduras , Panama and Santiago (Jamaica). In 1506 Christopher died in peace in Vallida.

Christopher was a thinker because he thought of sailing around the world. Christopher wasn’t balanced because he was away too much out at sea. Christopher wasn’t caring because he killed the red Indians.
