Global Warming is the increase of Earth's average surface temperature
due to effect of greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide emissions from
burning fossil fuels, industrial pollution & deforestation, which trap heat that
would otherwise escape from Earth. Due to Global warming Glaciers are
melting, sea levels are rising, cloud forests are drying, and as a result

wildlife getting disturbed.
 The global warming increases the temperature of the earth
between 0.4º C and 0.8ºC

 Most Green House gases come from the combustion of fossil fuels in
cars, factories (mostly cement factory) and electricity production
 The gas responsible for the most is carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous
oxide, CFC etc
 Different Green House gases have different heat-trapping abilities
 A molecule of methane produces more than 20 times the warming of a

molecule of CO2. Nitrous oxide is 300 times. CFC have heat-trapping
potential thousands of times greater than CO2
 The total worldwide emission of about 22 billion tons of carbon dioxide
to the atmosphere each year
 Since 1990, yearly emissions have gone up by about 6 billion metric
tons of "carbon dioxide equivalent" worldwide, more than a 20 percent
increase
The greenhouse effect is caused by gases in the atmosphere
which have the ability to absorb the sun's energy that is usually
radiated back into space from Earth. Energy from the sun comes into

the earth as short-wave radiation; some is absorbed and some is
radiated back as long-wave radiation.
The Green House gases are:
 Water Vapour
 Carbon dioxide
 Nitrous Oxide

 Methane
 CFCs
The planet is warming, from North Pole to South Pole, and The heat is
not only melting glaciers and sea ice, it’s also shifting precipitation
patterns and setting animals on the move.
Some impacts from increasing
temperature are already happening Ice is
melting worldwide, especially at the
Earth’s poles. This includes mountain
glaciers, ice sheets covering West
Antarctica and Greenland, and Arctic

sea ice.
 Researcher Bill Fraser has tracked the decline of the penguins on
Antarctica, where their numbers have fallen from 32,000 breeding

pairs to 11,000 in 30 years.
 Some butterflies, foxes, and alpine plants have moved farther north or
to higher, cooler areas.
 Precipitation has increased
across the globe, on average.
 Other effects could happen later this century, if warming continues.
 Sea levels are expected to rise between 7 and 23 inches (18 and 59 cm)
 Hurricanes and other storms are likely to become stronger.
 Floods and droughts will become more frequent. Rainfall in Ethiopia,

where droughts are already common, could decline by 10 percent
over the next 50 years.
 Less fresh water will be available.
If the Quelccaya ice cap in Peru
continues to melt at its current rate,
it will be gone by 2100, leaving
thousands of people who rely on
it for drinking water and electricity

without a source of either.
 Bleaching of Coral Reefs due to warming seas and acidification due to
carbonic acid formation
 Loss of Plankton due to warming seas --- The enormous (900 mile long)
 Produce more fuel-efficient vehicles
 Improve energy-efficiency in buildings
 Develop carbon capture and storage processes
 Increase solar power
 Decrease deforestation/plant forests
 Improve soil carbon management
 We should plant more trees
 We should not use vehicle for shorted distance
 Make public aware of global warming
 Avoid misuse of electric
device for example (air conditions,
refrigerators, etc)
