SCIENTIFIC MANAGEMENT:- “It is the art of knowing exactly what is to be done in the best and the cheapest way.”
OBJECTIVE To  secure the maximum prosperity for the employer  & employee. Maximum prosperity of employer include- 	Development of every branch of the 	business.
Contd… 3. Maximum prosperity of employee include- 	To develop each man to a state maximum efficiency.
FOUR PRINCIPLES:- Replacing the rule of thumb by Scientific methods. Selecting, training, teaching and develop the workman. Division of work and responsibility. Cooperation between Management and workers.
Explanation:- Bethlehem Steel company, in 1898. Had 5 blast furnace. Gang of 75 person were formed. Each man loaded in average of 12.5 tons per day.
Scientific study showed that a person can handle between 47-48 tons per day. (1st Principle) We observed a gang for 3-4 days. Selected the best four. Finally selected Schmidt , a Pennsylvania Dutchman.(2nd Principle).
Salary was increased from $1.15 per day to $1.85 per day. Schmidt had to load 47 tons per day and management would provide a man to instruct him in attaining this goal. (3rd Principle)
A man from management accompanied him. Instructed him, cooperated him, as well as took care of himand strength. (4th Principle).
RESULT:- ,[object Object]
Increment  of more than 200%.
Schmidt got higher salary.
Maximum benefit to both employer and employee.,[object Object]

  • 2. SCIENTIFIC MANAGEMENT:- “It is the art of knowing exactly what is to be done in the best and the cheapest way.”
  • 3. OBJECTIVE To secure the maximum prosperity for the employer & employee. Maximum prosperity of employer include- Development of every branch of the business.
  • 4. Contd… 3. Maximum prosperity of employee include- To develop each man to a state maximum efficiency.
  • 5. FOUR PRINCIPLES:- Replacing the rule of thumb by Scientific methods. Selecting, training, teaching and develop the workman. Division of work and responsibility. Cooperation between Management and workers.
  • 6. Explanation:- Bethlehem Steel company, in 1898. Had 5 blast furnace. Gang of 75 person were formed. Each man loaded in average of 12.5 tons per day.
  • 7. Scientific study showed that a person can handle between 47-48 tons per day. (1st Principle) We observed a gang for 3-4 days. Selected the best four. Finally selected Schmidt , a Pennsylvania Dutchman.(2nd Principle).
  • 8. Salary was increased from $1.15 per day to $1.85 per day. Schmidt had to load 47 tons per day and management would provide a man to instruct him in attaining this goal. (3rd Principle)
  • 9. A man from management accompanied him. Instructed him, cooperated him, as well as took care of himand strength. (4th Principle).
