3. Dukhan Oil Fields: The Beginning Dukhan is a town on the West Coast of Qatar, where all its onshore oil is produced. Oil was first discovered in 1939 and exported in 1949. 235 000 barrels / day are now piped to Umm Said for refining and export. QP Induction Series-Dukhan 3 2011/09/25

5. Qatar Makes Concessions... In the 1990s, the Emir of Qatar gave QP custodianship of the western area to explore and develop. The Concession Area is an 80km x 50km strip along the West Coast. 2011/09/25 QP Induction Series-Dukhan 5
6. Go East! All Dukhan oil is pumped 100 kilometres east to Umm Said on the East Coast. Oil is refined and exported in the industrial city in Umm Said. 2011/09/25 QP Induction Series-Dukhan 6
7. Wells Aplenty! Wells have been drilled in the Dukhan area since the 40s. Over 300 wells now exist, not including disused wells that have ceased to function. QP Induction Series-Dukhan 7 2011/09/25
8. Merry Christmas! The top of an oil well is called a wellhead. The structure showing above ground is called a “christmas tree” by operational staff. QP Induction Series-Dukhan 8 2011/09/25
9. Power and Gas Stripping Commissioning of the Dukhan Power Plant in 1958 enabled new projects. In 1974 a plant was commissioned to separate associated gas from the crude oil. 2011/09/25 QP Induction Series-Dukhan 9
10. Under Pressure! Ageing wells tend to lose pressure over time. In 1989 a water injection plant was built to raise well pressures. 2011/09/25 QP Induction Series-Dukhan 10
11. Need a Lift? Surplus gas from North Field in the Gulf was used from 1989 to raise pressures in Dukhan. The injection of gas into oil reservoirs to raise pressure was called the “Gas Lift Project” 2011/09/25 QP Induction Series-Dukhan 11
12. Arab D Condensate Project Oil is often mixed with condensates-lighter, saleable hydrocarbons including benzene and pentane. The Arab D Project in 1998 sought to remove condensates for ready sale to the market. 2011/09/25 QP Induction Series-Dukhan 12
13. Prior to the discovery of oil and gas, pearling and fishing were the primary industries of Qatar. 2011/09/25 QP Induction Series-Dukhan 13
14. The Old Gives Way to the New... Discovery of oil and gas in Qatar has had an enormous impact on the nation. Increased wealth has challenged traditional lifestyles and outlooks as Qatar joins the world community. 2011/09/25 QP Induction Series-Dukhan 14
15. Oil and gas revenues have enabled tremendous growth for Doha... 2011/09/25 QP Induction Series-Dukhan 15
18. Township Development The Township of Dukhan is being rennovated with new schools, housing, hospitals and recreation centres. Local residents will enjoy all the upgraded facilities by 2022. 2011/09/25 QP Induction Series-Dukhan 18
19. Twenty Years Left of Oil Reserves... 2011/09/25 QP Induction Series-Dukhan 19
20. Offshore Testing in the West Currently, all drilling on the West Coast is onshore. Analysis of seismic testing should tell us by 2013 whether oil and gas reserves exist offshore of Dukhan. 2011/09/25 QP Induction Series-Dukhan 20
21. Flaring-Less is More Flaring is a means of safely disposing of excess amounts of flammable gasses. Qatar Petroleum is committed to a target of zero flaring as a long term environmental policy. 2011/09/25 QP Induction Series-Dukhan 21 Source: Wikipedia
