1. CMCSS Parent Communication Meeting
January 17, 2012
Cathy Robbins, Rossview Middle School Representative
1. Welcome and introduction of Ms. Lindsay Campbell and Dr. Tammy Grissom of the Tennessee
School Board Association.
2. CMCSS has hired TSBA to search for a replacement for Mike Harris, Director of Schools, who
will be retiring at the end of the current academic year. Several interest groups are providing
feedback, which TSBA will use to generate a list of criteria for candidates. A report will be
submitted on February 7th and can be viewed on the CMCSS website. A screening committee
will review applications, and the new Director will be announced on May 1st.
3. Feedback on the following three questions was solicited:
a. What are the strengths of CMCSS? Parents cited the Stem program, Middle College, CTE
program, Parent Communication meetings, and Connect Ed as programs they would like to
see a new director continue.
b. What are the challenges for CMCSS? Parents cited bullying, disciplinary procedures on
busses, the need for new school busses, rapid community growth, ACT scores for
graduating seniors below the state average, and traffic issues during parent pick-up times
as problems they would like to see the new director address.
c. What personal characteristics should the new director have? Parents cited qualifications
such as experience in classroom teaching and school administration as valuable. It was
also noted that a local candidate would be familiar with the community and its needs, and
someone promoted from within the system would be familiar with current goals and
programs.
4. There is a 21 question survey available online at www.TSBA.net for anyone interested in
submitting their feedback.
