The Potato Eaters Van Gogh’s first painting Created April 1885  Unsuccessful  Featured Peasants who    “earned their food” Focus: the hands  Compassion for the poor “If you hear a voice within you say, ‘you cannot paint,’ then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced.” 							-V.V.G
“I can’t change the fact that my paintings don’t sell. But the time will come when people will recognize that they are worth more than the value of paints used in the picture.” 							-V.V.G.
