Techniques for Learning Students' Names
1. Techniques for Learning Students’ Names
Here are a number of techniques frequently used by educators to learn their students’ names. Please
put a check by the THREE techniques that you would find most useful to you when learning your
students’ names each semester.
1. _______ I have my students write their names on a name tent, name badge, name
place card that is placed on the front of their desks.
2. _______I have my students tell me their names and then repeat it back to them.

technology.

tend to use visual cues to enable you to learn your students’ names.

techniques to enable you to learn your students’ names.
If at least two of your responses were numbers: 3, 4 and 6, you personally tend to use tactile
techniques to assist you in learning your students’ names.
Visual techniques: 1, 7, 9
Auditory techniques: 2, 5, 8
Tactile techniques: 3, 4, 6
If you checked any different combination of techniques you are demonstrating diversity in the
techniques that you utilize to learn your students’ names.
