2. Series Concept:
This is a rough mind map I created to branch out the main ideas and key factors I will need
to include while creating and designing my TV series. This was designed to remind myself
what is included in a series.
This is what goes in the background:
Plot: Every episode there is a murder/ case to be solved. DCI Kennedy must be there to solve it, but
something else unexpended ends up happening
Theme: The main theme is crime/ drama (hybrid) there will be a slight hint of romance. In some
episodes there will be action included.
Title: King. This is because DCI Kennedy’s nickname by his fellow colleagues is King.
Location: The show will be based in London, DCI Kennedy will mainly work in Peckham, I chose this
place as I used to live there and know the area well.
Sound: The soundtrack I want to incorporate is London grime, to create a fresh and youthful vibe
into the series, I think this will go well with the story-lines I have created and also attract a wider
audience.
Characters: The protagonist is DCI Kennedy (King), his wife, work partner, his fellow colleagues and
the ensemble cast/ supporting cast.
Costume: The costume really doesn’t have that much relevance. As it is set in this period, the clothes
will be modern. As for King he is a little shabby and doesn’t really look after himself or care much for
his appearance.

3. Concept Outline:
The theme of this story will be crime/ drama (hybrid). It will not continuously be just crime and
drama based, I will try to incorporate some comedy in there to keep it slightly light hearted.
The characters included in my story will not be that extensive as I feel having a smaller cast makes it
slightly more intimate and we as the audience can really connect to the characters instead of having
to learn all these new characters and understand how they are all interlinked. I think the main
characters I will have will be the DIC, his boss and his partner, and then for the episodes where there
are cases I will have actors playing out those scenes.
My story will be based on a DIC (Detective Chief Inspector) my inspiration for this story is from
Luther, featuring Idris Elba. The DIC will face cases that intertwine with his personal life. Every
episode there is a new case a new problem and a new drama. He is faced with major consequences
based on his rational decisions, many people in his field doubt the way in which he works, yet he is
one of the most respected detectives in his game even though he may not go about situations in the
most ethical way. He gets the job done at the end of the day.

4. Outline of Form: This programme is a long form TV series, it will be broadcasted out to Amazon
prime and Netflix where these programmes will be easily accessed and you can watch the entire
series on there in your own personal time. This is good for people that are always working and have
different daily routines. You can fit the programme in and around your working schedule.
Content & Style: The genre of this series is a crime/ drama. It will be dark and street.
Product potential position in Marketplace: The competitors that 'King' may face are programmes
such as 'Luther' which is also a crime/ drama set in London, but what makes it so different to my TV
series is that each episode there is a new plot which keeps it fresh.
Specified target audience: The age range I will be selling my product to will be from the ages 15 and
up. This is because of the mature themes that are included. The gender of the target audience is to
both men and women. From my research on BARB Data it is shown that programmes such as Luther
which in some ways are similar to mine are mostly streamed online.
My 3 Ideas:
I came up with 3 different ideas to help decide what kind of TV show I wanted to create. I first made
mind maps of them and then in detail described what they were all about. See overleaf.
IDEA 1: (I went with this idea)
The main character is called DCI Kennedy. He is a detective living and working in Central London. The
way in which he goes about his work is slightly corrupt, yet he always solves the case. His fellow
colleagues know about his dark side.
He has a wife who is struggling to keep their relationship going. Every episode includes a new case
that he is working on with his Assistant. Somehow the cases and murders somehow link to him and
intertwine with his personal life and sometimes it doesn't always work out the way he had planned
for.

5. The genre of this is a crime drama (hybrid). Some of the locations shown in the series will be London,
interrogation rooms, crime scenes and offices.
IDEA 2:
This idea of a storyline is about 2 twin brothers in their 40's. They both have big names in the world
of business and are doing very well for themselves. One of the twin brothers has a legal business but
needed his twin to do a favour for him; the other twin brother has an illegal business in the world of
drugs and smuggling.
The bad brother now asks his brother for a favour this time and it's a tough decision he needs to
make. Does he take the deal and suffer with the possible consequences or does he leave it and lose
contact with his close brother.
The series will be based in London. The plot themes are as follows: secrets, corruption, drugs,
money, lying, loyalty and family.
The genre of this series will be a crime drama (hybrid).
IDEA 3:
This last idea is probably not so favourable compared to the other 2. This is about 2 twin sisters who
commit crimes together. They are extremely telepathic and communicate through their minds and
feel no need to speak out loud meaning they are silent.
The genre of this is crime, drama and fantasy. They commit crimes globally on a mass scale. There
criminal technique is so good that there is no hard evidence for the police to prosecute them for any
real crimes. They are watched by police all the time, yet the police don't know how they are doing it.
Every episode there will be a new crime that they commit and the police and defectives trying to
figure out how and why or even who has done it.

7. Character
Biographies:
These are the 4 main characters, each episode there will be an entire new cast introduced and mixed
in with the main cast (as listed below).
DCI Kennedy: DCI Kennedy (also known as King by his fellow colleagues) is the main character. He
features in every single episodes and the show is centred on his work and home life. He is a
Detective Chief Inspector at The Peckham Police Station; he is also lives in Peckham with his wife
Lauren Kennedy. They have no children as they are both so busy with work that they let their
relationship come last.
DI Williams: Detective Inspector Williams is King’s partner. Williams is a quiet and noble man and
extremely loyal to King, even though he is a hard partner to work with. Williams is young and has
come straight out of Policing school. He isn’t married and has no children.
Lauren Kennedy: Lauren Kennedy is King’s wife; she works as a lawyer in central London. She is
organised and loving towards King but she feels as if her relationship with him is disintegrating. She
is having an affair with a man she works with, King doesn’t know this.
Olivia (Ma'am): Olivia Riggins is Kennedy’s boss; she is firm and sharp with him as she knows what
he is like when he gets too involved in a case/ murder. She has worked in the forces for a very long
time and knows what Kennedy is like. In most episodes they have disagreements but it is always
resolved.

8. Episode Outline (10 Episodes):
Ep 1- Pilot: Introductory into meeting all of the new characters. We see who is who and how they are all
related. A case on a woman who supposedly murdered her parents lands on DCI Kennedy and Williams,
together they must investigate, interview and crack the case of this filthy murder.
Ep 2- Knockdown Ginger: DCI Kennedy finds it hard to get Alice to leave him alone. She threatens him about
his job and his wife. He becomes very protective over his wife. He gets word of a local gang robbing and killing
old and vulnerable women.
Ep 3- Hide and Seek: A paedophile with a mental health disorder has been arrested on the suspicion of
sexual assault. The police and DCI Kennedy are trying to get through to him regarding all of the missing
children that are connected to him. Kennedy and his team need to find the children before it's too late.
Ep 4- Law vs. Loyalty: A group of High School students testing out their amateur hacking skills on a couple of
top websites get caught. A knock on Olly's door at 2am has his parents going mad. Olly is linked with the
hacking but will not confess. He is torn between to the law and being loyal to his friends.
Ep 5- Masked Man: The next wannabe 'Jack the Ripper' is running through the streets of London day and
night. The masked man goes by no name but is only recognisable by his mask. Kennedy and his team need to
find the man before he kills any more innocent people. Kennedy finds it hard to balance out his work life and
his home life.
Ep 6- Mummy's Missing: When a young mother of 25 goes missing the husband is the first suspect. She
leaves notes and clues as to where they will find her, dead or alive. Kennedy and Williams must figure out the
riddles alongside the husband to find her location.
Ep 7- It Wasn't Me: Kennedy starts to receive some nasty threats from Alice an pursuing a relationship. She
threatens to hurt Zoe (Kennedy's ex-wife to be). Zoe is attacked at work without knowing who was behind her.
Everyone looks to Kennedy as the closest suspect.

9. Ep 8- Ring Ring: Kennedy has been released and is back at work. He receives a phone call from an
anonymous caller telling him to meet him on London Bridge at 0800hrs that morning. As any usual Detective
you don't go alone. Kennedy braves it and leaves Williams having to make a difficult decision on whether to
tell Olivia or watch Kennedy’s back.
Ep 9- Isn't Money Funny: A family report to the police a death in the family. A grandmother with millions in
her inheritance suddenly dies. The police believe it to be a suicide yet the family are now wondering about the
inheritance money and if it gets passed onto them? Kennedy suspect that is was a murder committed by the
family.
Ep 10- Seeking The Spotlight: Kennedy has decided to retire but it has to end with a bang, he lands
London's top case, it's all over the news. A famous British actress goes missing at an awards ceremony. The
media is full of questions and violent assumptions; it is up to Kennedy and Williams to find the truth.
Photographs for Title Sequence:
For my title sequence I had to take photographs to put into it. I wanted the style to be plain and
classic, without much going on.
I used bright lights and reduced the shutter speed to create the effect of a moving light. In my title
sequence I edited the photos to make them look stronger and more vibrant.
I then did another set of photographs with lights on. I did portrait stills and cut the image so it would
only show half of the face.
