AGENDA Why a Tuition and Fee Hearing? Possible tuition increase for DSC this year Why an increase in tuition & fees ? Board of Trustees/Regents Approval Introduction of new DSCSA Leadership
TheTruth in Tuition/Fees Process & Timeline
Why don’t we know an exact tuition increase percentage?Changes in Legislative Session Dates Martin Luther King HolidayPresident Nadauld is at COP today as we speakPossible Range of Increase: 7 – 10%This would equate to an increase of approximately $102 - $147 per full time student
Why a Tuition Increase? Drastic drop in state revenues past few years Slowed Economic Growth (tax base) Tuition only covers about 1/3 of the expense Avoid elimination of classes/programs/services
What About STUDENT FEES ?Fee Increases usually mirror the proposed tuition rangePossible increase of $19.50 - $27.46Proposed increase of - $25.40
STUDENT FEES Student Fees are administered, approved, and allocated under the direction of the Student Fee Allocation Committee. Fees are generally used to support student services and activities including but not limited to: student associations, athletics, campus events, student service programs, union buildings, intramurals, campus recreation, tutoring and academic support services, etc.
CHALLENGES for the S.F.A.C. ,[object Object]
We didn’t’ know when fees were established, why they were allotted, or for how long
As the college has grown, the needs of the student body have changed, and the fee allocation procedure needed to change as well, as there was an uncertainty of how allotted fees were being spent
No regular reporting or reviewing structure in place,[object Object]
Report on process ,[object Object]
Requests were reviewed over the break by the SFAC
Each entity was invited to meet with the SFAC individually to review details of their request during February 2011
