Despite Blackboard (Bb) LMS existing at Notre Dame for some years, the use of Organisations (known at Notre Dame as Community Sites) to enhance academic development especially in the area of promoting and exemplifying best practice is relatively recent. It became obvious in the light of the University's decision to progress and promote blended learning primarily using Bb LMS that staff required specific resources in a dedicated location and moreover, as benchmarks for best practice. eLLE was established by the authors to share practice and to build staff capacity for creating excellent e-learning opportunities for students. eLLE is also a unique vehicle for academic development as the enterprise creators are presented not as experts in the field of blended learning (which could be overwhelming) but as a practitioner with a great idea worth sharing and the willingness to show others how to create a similar resource. eLLE was primarily intended as a vibrant _community site_providing a 'how to' in developing blended learning resources. It has quickly become a 'what to', 'why to' and 'go to' in the suite of staff development offerings within eLearning at Notre Dame. The only question that remains for eLLE now is, 'where to'? Delivered at Innovate and Educate: Teaching and Learning Conference by Blackboard. 24 -27 August 2015 in Adelaide, Australia.

2016 ATEA presentation on TeachConnect (www.teachconnect.edu.au) about how to design an online platform of teachers. More details at www.nickkellyresearch.com and references included. What are beginning teachers looking for online? The TeachConnect story (and what can be learnt from it). TeachConnect is a platform to support pre-service secondary maths and science teachers through their professional experience and into the profession. It has been developed over four years as a design-based research project and now has over 500 users across Queensland. This presentation aims to share everything that we have discovered during this journey. It contributes a discussion of : - the unrealised potential for online support for pre-service and early career teachers (to augment rather than replace existing support) - the design principles for online communities of teachers that have been developed through analysis of existing platforms and multiple iterations of TeachConnect development with input from participants - the design of the engagement strategy for involving all stakeholders within the state education system, with a particular focus upon the development of the online group and peer mentoring program - real-world impacts and discussion of future steps Finally, the presentation describes how the open-source platform could be used in other states. The work can be understood as a contribution to the vision of an online platform that is as useful as possible for pre-service and early career teachers. In summary, we believe this will continue to be achieved through: (i) widespread collaboration between universities, government and accreditation bodies; (ii) ongoing participant-led design and redesign; and (iii) convergence, for maximising benefits of a large community whilst retaining the benefits of enclosed spaces where deep reflection can occur.

This talk presents a number of perspectives upon a growing learning network of pre-service and early career teachers. The learning network has arisen through a collaboration between a number of Australian universities, with the aim of facilitating support in the transition between pre-service education and the first years of service. The talk is structured to refer to this example in posing questions more general to design for learning networks: - What is the motivation for developing the learning network? Original research into the need to augment teacher support in Australia. - How do design of the set, activities and relationships align with participant motivations? Participant ownership and designing for culture (desired within the network) as well as cultural history (of the participants in other networks). - How does theory influence the design process? Learning technologies have a huge amount of promise for improving learning outcomes. Unfortunately, eLearning has become associated with self-paced linear modules that are often slide-based information dumps with a quiz at the end. The focus of using digital learning is often just on saving money and not on improving business results. During this interactive webinar we will explore trends in digital learning that are re-focusing digital learning on improving performance. In the interaction session we explored: - digital learning and the 70-20-10 learning model - re-thinking compliance training - new approaches to authoring digital learning - the application of design thinking to learning - emerging trends in tracking and recording.

Our research goes back to first principles about what good assessment and feedback looks like at this point in the 21st century. Prof David Nicol, who developed the widely used REAP (re-engineering assessment practice) principles, will join us to discuss how his current thinking is evolving. We will discuss David’s findings in the context of our landscape review and look at how this group may help take the work forward. Based on data form a range of ACODE Surveys over the last 12 months, and other industry data, there have been some distinct trends emerge that suggest that institutions are taking a fresh look at how they conduct teaching and assessment, longer term. Much of this has been predicated on what was necessary to deal with lock-down situations due to COVID-19, but more recently this has allowed institutions to consider the longer-term advantages in accommodating different forms of assessment, those that have traditionally fallen out of what was considered ‘normal’, most notably the ‘exam’. This shift in thinking has also extended to what institutions considering different forms of delivery of their core content, with there being a distinct shift away from what has been the mainstay for centuries, the ‘Lecture’. This shift has allowed for more authentic forms of delivery, ones based in more collaborative and active approaches. This presentation with provide a summary of some of the key data and share some examples of how some institutions are approaching the next few years, as uncertainty around the short-term future of in-person learning and teaching persists.

In this session, we'll explore how schools can truly leverage this increased capacity by developing dedicated spaces for learning in the digital domain. Learn how these spaces are designed, what tools are available to do so, and obtain strategies for effectively creating learning spaces in the cloud that support ubiquitous technology access and a more expansive condition for learning and where it occurs.
