2. Personal Learning
Preferance
When I first took the learning preference survey at the beginning
of this class, I received a very accurate score of what I expected my
learning preference to be. I scored 1 in “reflective”, 3 in “sensing”,
5 in “visual”, and 1 in “global”. At the end of the class, my thinking
definitely changed as a visual learner. This class not only helped me
with choosing helpful learning preference, but it also broadened
my understanding of the different ways I could learn as a visual
learner. I now know multiple strategies and online tools to help aid
in my learning as a visual learner. Even though I am mostly a visual
learner, I learned how to incorporate the other learning
preferences such as sensing to enhance and better my learning
experience. Knowing about different learning preferences makes a
huge difference in my academic success because I finally have
multiple ways to study and get information in my head an easier
way.

3. Learning Pathway
The learning pathway that I chose at the beginning of the
class was “Learning Sage”. I was definitely able to get a
broader understanding of multimedia technologies
through the different kinds of learning quests that was
assigned. I already knew what screencasts, multimedia,
and podcasts were. However, I never knew you can utilize
them in learning! Through the learning quests, I was able
to broaden my knowledge about the different websites
and tools you can use such as Screenr, iStore Podcasts,
and Camtasia to further aid my learning experience. I
didn’t change my pathway since I was already familiar
with these type of technologies. As a learning sage, I was
able to discover the different websites and apps and learn
how to actually make a multimedia project.

4. Activities
An activity that helped me get a broader understanding of how
to use a multimedia technology to learn would have to be the
podcasts activity. This activity helped because I was able to
learn more about podcasts and specifically where I can search
to find a subject that I would like to learn more of. It is also the
podcasts activity that gave me a deeper understanding of how
to use a multimedia technology to learn. I learned the different
types of podcasts you can search for and can make. The activity
that worked best for learning with others was the screencasts
activity. I learned that you can use 3rd party websites to host a
screencast project and from there work on it with group
members. They can edit it at the same time at anytime they
want and also post comments for discussion.

5. Top 3 Mobile Technologies:
Screencasts
As I explored screencasts for my own learning, I found
that having a visual with an audio of the words at the
same time was more efficient in its use. I came to this
conclusion through hypothesizing whether or not it would
be better to have the video with the screen cast. This, I
compared with the efficiency of viewing still images only.
Through my exploration, I found that the screencasts help
with engaging the learner and understanding better. The
combination of visual and audio help with the
engagement of learning, as the idea of screen casting sets
everything systematically in the brain. The emphasis of
screen casting is the visual component, however, the
additional audio aids and words on the screen create a
clever learning environment.

6. Top 3 Mobile Technologies:
Ipad/Tablet
Being an owner of an iPad, I do find this tool helpful in many
ways. The variety that the iPads provide with their respected
features enable users to search information, download
applications, create documents, organize their lives, play games,
assist with banking, and more. Though I must admit, I felt a bit
uneasy about using such an advance technology because of how
traditional I am. I like reading books with pages on hand and
having a hard copy calendar. However, discovering the amazing
features of the iPad changed my perspective and opened my
eyes to the advantages of the product. Not only does the iPad
provide everything in one place, but the design itself presents
an advantage. The images are clear, the sound is clear and
audible, and the instructions make using the product easy for all
ages to understand. In conclusion, I would say that iPads/Tablets
make learning more enjoyable and sufficient.

7. Top 3 Mobile
Technologies: Podcasts
Upon learning about podcasts, I was familiar with this form of
learning. Podcasts are basically digital files that are shared through
computers, media players, laptops, and others. These are most
commonly seen in iTunes stores and consist of a variety to
download. For example, one can download the NPR or NBC video
podcasts. These and other topics provide visual and/or audio
multimedia content to users. For my own acquirements, I explored
the educational podcasts to help understand the concept of a
science assignment better. I first experimented with using just an
audio podcast, but I concluded that I am more of a visual learner. As
a result, I used the visual type of podcasting and it was more
helpful to me as opposed to the audio. Furthermore, a feature I like
about podcasting is the option of rewinding and fast forwarding.
Repetition is also a way for me to learn and by rewinding and fast
forwarding; I was able to completely understand the concept
through podcasting.

8. Synthesize Your
Experiance
The multimedia technology that interested me the most for
learning were the screencasts. I thought how interesting it was
that you could make a slideshow with voiceover so easily. It
amazes me how easy it is to do it and its free! The multimedia
technology that surprised me the most as learning tools was
podcasts. I thought podcasts were only produced as sound
mp3’s. However, I now have learned that there are podcasts out
there with a video visual also! In addition, apple has a search
engine for podcasts made by regular people. If I ever need more
clarification about a certain subject, I simply search a keyword
in the podcast search engine and many results pop up. I want to
get more into learning about how to make podcasts. It always
interested me to learn how to put certain images over an audio
display professionally.

9. Synthesize Your
Experience (cont.)
A social technology that worked best for my learning
was Google+ and Google Docs. This worked great
especially with group projects. It allowed any member of
the group to add on new information at anytime they
wanted. It also updated information in real time so
everyone can stay up to date with the latest information.
Since I am a visual learner, the app allows users to post
any type of media to share in our document. It supports a
wide range of multimedia, which is another reason why I
like Google+ along with Google Docs. These types of social
technology allow us to engage more with our peers and
work better together as a team.

10. Learning After the
Semester
The multimedia learning strategies I will continue to use
after this class is podcasts. After using the podcast search
engine, I feel like any topic your search; a good amount of
results will pop up. Podcasts will be helpful outside of
school if you need help doing a specific task. They have
many tutorials on the podcast list where you can follow
instructions step by step. They are very informative and
provide a lot of useful information. There are also a lot of
podcasts that talk about improving yourself as a person.
This could help you if you are a working person and want
to improve your productivity at work.

11. Learning After the
Semester (cont.)
A multimedia technology that I will continue to use for
learning even after this class is multimedia in general. There are
so many information and tutorials that are YouTube, apple
podcasts, Vimeo, etc. Since I am a visual learner, I tend to
engage more when I see a video because I can really put the
pieces together in my mind. There is a math professor I follow
on YouTube that teaches me several useful strategies I can use
since I am currently taking calculus. I always use YouTube as a
multimedia technology even for non-learning. It is just very
entertaining and sometimes you can get something out of it. I
wouldn’t avoid any of the multimedia technologies I have
learned. All of them seem useful and exciting in one way or
another.
