This document provides commentary on various verses from Matthew 18. It discusses Jesus teaching his disciples about humility and becoming like children to enter the kingdom of heaven. It warns about causing others to stumble in their faith and the serious consequences. The lost sheep parable is examined, emphasizing God's desire that none would be lost. Guidance around church discipline and forgiveness is also covered from these Bible passages.

8. Matthew 18:7, Woe To That Man
• Matthew 18:7 "Woe to the world because of
its stumbling blocks! For it is inevitable that
stumbling blocks come; but woe to that man
through whom the stumbling block comes!
• Woe to the pornographers, movie industry,
the perversion promoters, and to those who
lure others into sin!
• Turn to 1 Corinthians 6:9-11
10. Matthew 18:10-14, Lost Sheep
• Matthew 18:14
• If God doesn’t want to lose any of His
sheep, how secure are you in Him?

one of these little ones, for I say to you that
their angels in heaven continually see the face
of My Father who is in heaven. [Heb 1:14, Acts 12:15]
• The idea of “Guardian Angels” comes from
this verse
• But what are they “continually” looking at?
12. Matthew 18:15-20, Church Discipline
• Mat 18:15…brother sins, go…in private…
• Mat 18:16…take one or two more with you…
• Matthew 18:17…tell it to the church; and if he
refuses to listen even to the church,
• let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax

you who are spiritual, restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness;
each one looking to yourself, so that you too will not be tempted.

judged; and do not condemn, and you will not be
condemned; pardon, and you will be pardoned.

Do you not judge those who are within the church?

• Matthew 18:18 "Truly I say to you, whatever you bind on

• The context is in a judicial, disciplinary action in church.
• It has nothing to do with Satan or demons
• Jude speaks about false teachers who in; KJV Jude 1:8
Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise
dominion, and speak evil of dignities. 9 Yet Michael the

about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a
railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee.

• Matthew 18:19 "Again I say to you, that if two of you agree
on earth about anything that they may ask, it shall be done
for them by My Father who is in heaven.
• Sadly, there are many Christians who think this opens the
door for “name it and claim it.” They think they can "claim"
a big house or a fancy car or even a situation in their lives.
This is the basis of the "prosperity gospel.“ This is simple
Scripture twisting. STR says “never read a verse of the
Bible”. And by that, Greg means “never take a verse by
itself without considering the context.”
• The context of Matthew 18:19 is a judicial setting, of
church discipline.
