The Cisco Service Provider Management Applications Business Unit provides advanced network management and operations support software. They are seeking an experienced manager to lead a team designing the user experience for their Prime Network product as it transitions to a web-based platform. As the User Experience Manager, they will be responsible for managing the design team and aspects of the Prime Network product. The role requires extensive experience in user experience design, interaction design, and managing design teams.
1. The Cisco Service Provider Management Applications Business Unit (SPMABU) provides the world’s most advanced
Network Management System (NMS) and Operations Support System (OSS) software technology. SPMABU is part
of the Network Management Technology Group (NMTG) within Cisco.
We are looking for an experienced team member to help us manage the execution of various Engineering projects of
our Cisco Prime Network management product, which is our “flagship” platform for managing IP/packet technologies
spanning over 50 Cisco hardware platforms along with 3rd Party devices (e.g., Juniper, ALU, etc.). Prime Network is
one of the fastest growing products in SPMABU, so this position will be fast paced, challenging and immensely
rewarding.
Prime Network Engineering is looking for a Manager, User Experience to lead the user experience and design for an
engineering team that is transforming its Prime Network product to the web and desires an engaging customer
experience. You will lead the design of the UI architecture, visual design, interaction flow, branding, look & feel and
set the team’s design and usability practices for the Prime Network (NMS/EMS product).
As Manager of User Experience, you will be responsible for managing the user experience and design aspects for the
Prime Network product, and manage a team of designers who will be working with multiple groups to solve complex
user problems and needs. You will be working within a context of a Suite of products that will challenge you with the
design aspects of Prime Network NS/EMS features, and also the overall context of the suite of other products.
As this product evolves you will work directly with senior management to create innovative new product offerings
through continuous iterative design. You will help drive product conceptualization working with senior management to
decide on the direction of new products and services, and work directly with the software development teams on a
daily basis.
Basic Qualifications
• 8-12 years of professional interaction design experience with multi-disciplinary design teams
• 5+ years of experience as a user experience designer, interaction designer, information architect, or similar role
• Bachelor's degree in design, human-computer interaction (HCI), or 5+ years equivalent professional experience
• A portfolio or samples of work demonstrating experience creating user-centered design solutions
• Experience in designing and conducting user research initiatives
• Experience designing for the web and web based devices
• Experience providing detailed specifications and optimized HTML and CSS prototypes for development team
• Experience creating mockups and style guides
• Experience in managing initiatives in a matrix organization
• Experience in working with global testing and development teams, working with different locations and
accommodating flexible work schedules at times
• Experience in single product focus within a suite of product environment
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience leading design of early stage product and mature product features, track record of working on product
conceptualization
• Solid track-record of setting best practices for web-based information architecture and design, as well as
demonstrated leadership in usability principles and techniques
• Strong organizational planning and development, business judgment, design leadership, and communication/inter-
personal skills
• Visual design expertise demonstrated through mockups and style guides
• Ability to prototype in HTML/CSS, JavaScript, and Flash or Flex
• Experience with a variety of design tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Fireworks, Visio, and Dreamweaver
• Experience working in a collaborative team and working directly with developers for implementation of designs
• A strong portfolio consisting of conceptual designs, wireframes, visual mockups and prototypes
• Experience designing user interfaces and experience with Network Management Systems
• An up-to-date working knowledge of web and mobile front-end technologies
• An understanding of Network Management System concepts and application features
