4. This course is designed to give students a
greater understanding of the process of
creating an animation.
It aims to encourage students to creatively
approach ideas and concepts and develop
them through stop motion animation.
5. Students will gain experience in using animation
and editing programmes.
The animation industry is a growing one in Ireland
with companies like Brown Bag and Boulder
Media making work for the home and
international market.
Therefore developing skills at a young age in these
technologies could be very benefical
6. Students will be using their creative energy in a
very practical and enjoyable way.
They will make curriculum links to other
subjects by using stories or knowledge that
they have aquired
and use them as a basis for developing their
animation.

students will take ten.

and Media” plus the above Junior Certificate.
17. Portmarnock Community School is a Pilot School
for the development of the new Junior Cycle
This gives us scope to develop new courses –
“short-courses”, “digital animation and media”...
For now, we are following our own path over the
next three years, using the methodologies
proposed by the National Council for Curriculum
and Assessment (NCCA) for teaching and
learning and the development of short-courses

19. First-year 2014/2015 will see every student, in
every secondary school in Ireland looking at an
new English syllabus with a new form of junior-
cycle assessment for English in 2017
You will begin to hear of more schools
introducing new courses
For now all subjects (other than digital animation
and media) for your child, starting in September
2013 remain the same, though
◦ there will be a greater focus on Numeracy and Literacy
◦ teachers will have an increased focus on the Key Skills in
their teaching practice
