EPIDEMIOLOGICAL INTELLIGENCE AND MANAGEMENT PROGRAMME (EIMP)

     Course Overview
     ————————————————————————————————————————————–——
The main aim is to provide students with a multidisciplinary framework for understanding of the
principles of both communicable disease and non-communicable disease control. At the outset,
students will be introduced to a multidisciplinary integrated and goal orientated approach to the
implementation of disease control in the diverse contexts of differing health systems. The
course will examine activities related to health, social and economic development and further
examine the reasons for successes, partial successes and failures of interventions, taking into
account the social, political and economic context in which health systems operate.

     Key Benefits of Attending
     ————————————————————————————————————————————–——
The Teaching Unit increases the awareness of the role of epidemiology to public health by
discussing some of the more common applied issues involved in epidemiology and public health.
It also provides knowledge and understanding of applied epidemiology for enhancing public
health surveillance and disease management. The topics are thought-provoking, even contro-
versial, to stimulate interest and debate. To a larger extent, students will be exposed to a
range of ideas about health services and health systems. Drawing on epidemiology, medicine,
economics and sociology, the Teaching Unit will help students understand how service function,
the reasons services have developed in the way they have, the basis of some universal, persis-
tent problems, and some possible solutions to such difficulties.

     Who Should Attend
     ————————————————————————————————————————————–——
This course meets the needs of those professionals working in public health organizations,
disease control agencies, and field environments, who seek to acquire knowledge on how to
gather epidemiological intelligence in field investigation and to manage effectively.
