Every content creator has a toolbox, a collection of hardware, software, and apps that they use to draft, edit, create, and design the content that they produce every day. As Content Manager at DOZ, I've come to rely on a set of 10 tools that range from cutting edge web apps through to old school grammar guides. In this deck I explain what these ten tools are, and how they help get the job done day-in, and day-out.
2. I'm Dylan.
I'm the Content Manager
at DOZ and every day I
create content for our
blog, for social media sites,
here on SlideShare, and
for promotional
newsletters we send to the
hundreds of clients and
thousands of marketing
experts who work with us.
3. TOOLs
Like any content creator, I
have a set of hardware,
software, and apps that I
need to have handy to
make sure I can do my job.
I like to think of these as
my tools.
4. TEN OF
THE BEST
In this deck I've gathered
together the ten tools I
always have close to hand
so that I can create the
content I need all day,
every day.

6. MACBOOK
AIR
My Macbook Air goes
everywhere with me. It's
the perfect portable
solution for the textual
and graphical content I
create.
Sure, it lacks the power of
its bigger brother the
Macbook Pro. But for blog
posts, slide decks,
speeches, ebooks, white
papers and images it's
ideal - and I can sling it in
my bag and barely feel the
weight at day's end.
7. RODE
SMARTLAV
Sometimes I need to take
notes or interview a
colleague. Rode's small
and portable lapel
microphone fits in the side
pocket of my bag and is
perfect for ensuring I never
miss a word of what was
said.
It plugs directly into my
phone or into the
Macbook and is well worth
the €80 investment.
8. PEN AND
PAPER
For all the great things
about the Macbook, some
things can still be done
more effectively on paper
with a ballpoint pen.
I'm not picky - and I'm not
a Moleskine guy - and as
long as I can read what
I've written it works for me.
Laying out a presentation,
planning a speech, or
brainstorming ideas,
sometimes old school is
still cool.
9. EVERNOTE
The downside of drafting
on paper is that you have
to keep it ordered. And
even then it can be
difficult to search througn
and find what you're
looking for. Enter Evernote.
Evernote is where I do my
drafting, it's where I store
my research, and it's
where I scan all those pen-
and-paper sketches and
notes using Evernote's
Scannable app.
10. WORDPRESS
It's one of the most
popular Content
Management Systems
(CMS) on the planet.
Powering about 1 in 4
websites and everything
from the smallest blog
through to the largest
news organization,
Wordpress is a big part of
many content creator's
daily routine. Whether for
my personal or
professional blogging,
Wordpress is my first and
last choice for a CMS.
11. CANVA
Canva is an online design
application that allows
you to make things look
amazing - and usually
without spending a cent.
Canva is where I dres up
images, create
presentations, build slide
decsk, and manage most
of the graphic design work
that comes my way.

12. PIXABAY
DOZ can't afford to be
burned by Getty Images
and their infamous
copyright extortion letters.
And if my boss can't afford
it, neither can I.
For high quality images
that I can use, manipulate,
remix, and mark up, I go to
Pixabay.
It's high quality, free to use
and remix, and has a great
search feature, too.
13. DROPBOX
I store everything in the
cloud.
Everything.
And when it comes to
cloud storage, Dropbox
has been my preferred
solution for years now. I
paid for the upgrade to
the 1TB plan and have
been happy with the
space, the sync, and the
uptime.
What could be simpler?
14. GOOGLE
APPS
I'm a Dropbox fan.
But the team at DOZ uses
Google Apps, including
Google Docs for a lot of
the drafting work.
While Dropbox is great for
storage, if I want to work
easily with a Google Apps
team then I have to be
able to work in this
environment, too. As a
result, Google Drive, Apps,
and Gmail are all a part of
my daily routine.
15. HARBARCE
HANDBOOK
Call it a nod to my
academic roots but a copy
of my Harbrace Handbook
is rarely out of arms reach.
I write for a living and I
have a pretty good grasp
of grammar and
punctuation.
But sometimes I'll get
stuck, have a question the
internet can't answer, and
I'll flip through my
grammar gospel to find
the answer.
